Who was the NASA PAO on duty when the Apollo 13 accident occurred?

Thanks for the answer Sy - I searched the internet but couldn't find the answer. Someone asked me on YouTube so wanted to find out the answer and not guess.

Is Doug Ward still alive? I imagine he has some fantastic stories to tell...

Try reaching out to either Rich Jurek (rjurek349) or David Meerman Scott (freshspot).

Both are on this board and their book features Doug Ward's commentary as does a nice article on Gizmodo from March 2014.

I assume they were in touch with him recently as part of their writing and perhaps they can help further.

(The Brian Regan clip shown in the first comment of the Gizmodo article is pretty funny too.)

I have always been in awe of PAO Doug Ward's cool and calm voice during the Apollo missions but have never seen a photo of him.

Please can anyone provide any images of Mr. Ward?

The PAO at the time of the Apollo 13 accident was John McLeaish. Doug Ward had just handed over to him.

Attached is a pic I took of the PAO guys during our Apollo 11 splashdown party with the crew at the Hofbraugarten German restaurant.

Left to right: John McLeaish, Doug Ward, Jack Riley, Milt Reim and Paul Haney.

True "left to right" IDs in the photo would be: John McLeaish, Doug Ward, Paul Haney, Jack Riley and Milt Reim.

I should clarify that the "left to right" text was something I added from the filename to Sy's photo, so it was my mistake, not his.
