It is with a heavy heart that I write this, I received notification last night that Gordon Fullerton is entering Hospice care. It is public knowledge among the community.

I do not think it will be much longer according to what I read. He suffered a debilitating stroke some three years ago, that would have killed a lesser man.

What a hero. Not just in aviation, in space.

What heartbreaking news. As someone who recently lost a loved one while in a hospice, I can vouch for the fact that excellent, compassionate care is extended there in one's last days. May his family feel comfort and Col. Fullerton receive the best of care in his final journey in life.

I was saddened to hear this news, Gordo was generous with his help on my Challenger book research back in 1987 and provided an excellent Foreword. His accomplishments at Dryden since leaving the astronaut office were equally commendable and all thoughts are with him and his family, friends and colleagues. Gordo is truly one of the 'original' American astronaut pioneers of the first era...a historic group of over 70 individuals many of us grew up with.
