Does anyone know what happened to Dick Koos, simulation supervisor (SIMSUP) at the time of Apollo?I can't find any trace of him, except the famous story of the last simulation before the launch of Apollo 11. |

Charles Murray, co-author of "Apollo: The Race to the Moon" would likely know. If you Google his name and American Enterprise Institute you can find his e-mail address. |

I found Charles Murray Wikipedia article and other articles. I was surprised to find out that his participation to Apollo, which is such a major opus about the subject, is barely mentioned, as if it were a side project to him. Anyone know what got him to collaborate with Catherine Bly Cox? |

Well, being married to her probably played a part. |

My interview with Mr. Murry and his wife and co-author will answer your question. |

Excellent interview. I cherish the time spent with Charles Murray. He and his wife did indeed pen "THE definitive book about how we did Apollo." I still have a chuckle when I recall the look on his face when I showed him the two reels of my Apollo 13 EECOM console audio tapes which had lain in my office desk for 18 years and explained their content. |

Steph Mineart writes on her website that "Richard Koos is my mom's uncle" in connection with an Air & Space article about Apollo 11. Maybe you could contact her. |

Excellent interview indeed, Thomas. I like this statement, which I'd never heard:
I sometimes say that the real race to the Moon was not with the Russians. It was with time—would we get to the Moon before NASA became bureaucratized? We barely made it. |
