Today would have been Sonny "Billy Bob" Carter's 64th birthday.

Sonny was a terrific guy! He flew STS-33, a DOD mission on Discovery and was to fly on STS-42. He was also a professional soccer player for the Atlanta Chiefs. He really loved baseball and the Astronaut Office all chipped in to buy him a Dream Week with the LA Dodgers.

He was extremely good to my family and me. Being a Medical Doctor, he was always calling me to see how my son, who has many illnesses was. He was a real class act!

On April 5, 1991 he lost his life on a commuter flight doing an appearance for NASA. Former Senator John Tower was on that flight.

I sure wish I could wish Billy Bob a happy birthday.
