To quote Elvis: "Thank you. Thank you very much."

There are plans in the works to make it bigger and better. This is just the beginning.

At this time, we'd like to put out a call for photos. If you have any photos of yourself with Scott that you would like to see posted on his site, please send them to webmaster@scottcarpenter.com and we will do our best to get them posted. We'd also love to see any non-mainstream photos from the past that you may have.

Please try not to send photos larger than 800x600 as they just will need to be downsized for the web... and it's greatly appreciated when one step can be eliminated.

We aspire to have 99.99% uptime and look forward to your visiting the updated site.

If anyone has any problems with the videos, please let me know. The dozen testers didn't have a problem, however, Scott had a bit of a problem with the videos. The more feedback and testers, the better.

It's a great piece of video of Scott explaining a lot of things. It's been 16 years since Moon Shot aired and it appears that TBS has no plans on releasing it on DVD or replaying it. Hopefully, they won't ask us to take it down. A lot of people never saw the original two part documentary and the video is long out of print. I actually moved the VHS to DVD so it will never degrade or get lost.

Just a very quick note of thanks to many of you who have sent me photos of Scott, Scott with you, Scott with your kids, etc. They've all been posted. Keep 'em coming. Scott is loving them all.

...or in the words of the crew of Apollo 7, "Keep those cards and letters [and photos] coming in, folks".

Seriously, everyone is happily overwhelmed by your support on this end. The more the merrier. Every picture tells a story.

Interesting story - media in Greece has picked up on the new site and wants to do an interview. It's nice when something very new is noticed halfway around the world.

Thanks Bruce. Photos, videos, stories, whatever are more the welcome.

Scott and I spoke yesterday and he was completely taken aback by what has happened in the last few days. He said the he never realized how much information that people had out there about him - and all of the pictures. He LOVES looking at the pictures. Of course, he knows more about his career that all of us put together, so he loves it when we send in photos and videos. To him, they are bringing back such wonderful memories of all of the shows and events. He thanked me so many times - and each time I told him "No, the honor is mine."

We should all respect our National Treasures and Scott is one of them!!!!!

Look under appearances for the photo gallery.

Tracy, that is the one recommendation I would make - to update the header (appearances) to include photo gallery - you really have to look for them to find them.

Once you do - it is great to look through all of the photos (especially the one of Carpenter and my son).

I will do that. I didn't expect the overwhelming amount of photos so soon [and keep sending them]. And if you have videos, let me know about those, too.

Scott is really tickled by the outpouring from everyone.

Look for a new Photo Gallery page soon.

It is a great website. I really love listening to the "Helium Filled Astronaut". It is hilarious.

Great job webmaster and a BIG Thank You to Scott Carpenter and Kris Stoever for being so kind to space fans like me.

Tracy, I've just spent a very pleasurable hour trolling through your new website, created as a revised tribute to everyone's hero, Scott Carpenter. You have not only done an amazing job, but you deeply honour a man of accomplishment, daring, humility and tremendous grace.

While the Mercury flight of John Glenn captured my youthful imagination back in 1962, it was Scott's mission aboard Aurora 7 that I followed right from the outset, and I treasure the times that I have had the privilege of meeting and talking with this great man. Your new website brings back all of that drama and excitement to me, both in the third-person descriptions of his life, personal challenges and space and undersea missions, and in Scott's own words. Everything about this website leaves me in awe of the extensive work you have put into its creation; the text, the photos, the videos - you have done yourself and Scott Carpenter proud.

I do urge everyone to similarly browse through this remarkable website as I'm sure you will enjoy it every bit as much as I have.

And let's look forward just a few more days to the 48th anniversary of a true milestone in spaceflight history. God speed, Scott Carpenter.

A compliment from Deputy Colin! I bow in your presence, sir.

Scott asked me to add an "Opinions" page to his new site. You may want to read the "Open Letter to President Obama" that's kicking off the new page - as well as an old favorite from 2001.

I just had to share this one...

I went to Autographica a few years ago, and got some really nice autographs from Scott.

I went back the following year and was walking through the signing room. Scott didn't have queue in front of him at the time, was putting his papers in stuff in order, I casually asked how he was -

Smiling he said to me "Great thanks, better than last time - I'm getting some lunch this year!" and started to laugh.

I can only assume he didn't have a proper lunch break the year before. I still laugh when I think of the comment - how quick and witty.

A true pleasure to have met such a nice person and ambassador for the space program!

I don't know the exact particulars yet, but Scott will be on Mark Larson's radio show on the 48th anniversary of Aurora 7 on May 24th. You can pick up Mark's show on the internet. His show airs between 7-9am Pacific time [he's in San Diego] but I don't know what time the interview will take place. Mark promised he'd let me know the exact times once he has it figured out with Scott.

However, Mark's shows are archived as podcasts about 12-24 hours after airing, so, if you miss it, you might be able to catch it as an mp3 file as well as on the "multimedia" page of Scott's web site.

I spoke with Scott again this afternoon. He's thrilled with the response and encourages everyone to keep those photos coming in and if you want something up there that you don't see, to make sure that you bug me about it.

He also pointed out that the New York Times article regarding Armstrong and Cernan speaking in Washington is now on his "Opinions" page.

The lastest word is that 20 minutes has been allotted for the interview with Scott. I will know the air time a few days before for those that want to tune in via the internet or in their cars in San Diego. I'm not sure if Mark's radio show in syndicated. It used to be on his old station. Not sure about this one. I'll have to ask him.

Early word is that the interview will be at 7:35 a.m. Pacific time on May 24th. Not etched in stone yet... but at least you can bookmark the web site and listen in.

I don't have any photos of the Dynamic Pioneer and myself, but I do have a story to tell.

During the New York World's Fair in 1964 the real Aurora 7 was put on display. It was the first time I had ever seen a capsule up close.

The people at the fair were taking off the plexglass over the hatch. Why, I asked? I turned around to see the MAN himself standing there.

Scott reached in and started showing me the controls. The abort handle had a red button on top, you would depress the red button and then rotate the handle 45' to fire the escape tower. He told of repressing the visor seal on the helmet after eating. And he pointed out the glass sphere with the fluid in it was, for the zero-G experiment. He described the flattened sun photographs he took.

I could only imagine the view from the inside #18 as I looked out the window.

There was no question as to who the greatest astronaut in the world was. Even though I was a little kid at the time I was important as hell for five minutes, I was talking to astronaut Scott Carpenter!

An extra special thanks from the scottcarpenter.com gang for bringing up the total of his photo gallery to 95 personal pictures today submitted by all of the fans. We even snuck in some birthday party photos!!! Keep 'em coming in and we'll keep posting them. They are coming in from all around the world.

And special thanks to a very nice contributor from Germany who has sent in some Mercury 7 photos that have rarely been seen.

Always a tip o' the beanie to the groupies. You all are impressing a lot of people.
