According to the The Huntsville Times The man overseeing the Ares program at Marshall Space Flight Center is leaving for a job with Dynetics, the latest plot twist in the saga of the controversial rocket program.Steve Cook announced his decision Thursday in an e-mail to Marshall workers. Cook is reuniting with his former boss at Marshall, Dave King, who was named executive vice president at Dynetics in April. Cook has spoken at the last three Saturn/Apollo Reunions at the USSRC and is an engaging speaker and evangelist for the Ares program. |

He was a huge proponent of Ares, good at sugar coating the program's unresolved technical challenges. Stay tuned for the other shoe to drop.------------------ Scott Schneeweis http://www.SPACEAHOLIC.com/ |

He was also scheduled to speak at SPACEFEST, but cancelled at the last minute. We figured it was due in part to Ares detractors Alan Stern and Buzz Aldrin, also speaking at the conference. Kim |

Something he's privy to and we aren't (yet)? Not a good sign. |

Clearly he felt that it was time to move on. Did he feel that there was no longer a future as Ares Project Manager? We don't know - yet.But based upon the clues we've been given from the testimony before the Augustine Commission, I wouldn't want to bet my career on the Ares I. Tim |

They'll all start dropping away now, as U.S. manned space flight is drawing to a close for the foreseeable future. |

Are we to assume from Mr. Cook's departure that Ares shall soon join the list of aborted projects like DynaSoar, NASP, VentureStar and X-34? In which case, what is the fate of Orion? |
