According to his nephew, William G. Schweikhard passed away on July 12, 2009.

He was a candidate for the NASA astronaut class 2 and selected for the military astronaut class 1.

He was also one of the flight test engineers involved in the XB-70 program. He was on the dais at last years Gathering of Eagles that honored the Men of the XB-70, and I had the pleasure of chatting with him for a while. A true gent.

RIP Bill.

Makes going to these events all the more precious. Only 4 X-15 pilots available for this years and 2 may not be able to go.

The was a Nova documentary on the MOL program and I think I saw him in one of the short video clips.
