In his latter years Paul was a cherry orchardist in New Mexico, an occupation he enjoyed, but he always recalled with great affection his years with NASA. It was a tremendous source of pride for him, and as I mentioned earlier in this thread he often reminded me that he was born on the same date that we now celebrate the first lunar landing back in 1969. Three years ago he also shared another little same-date story with me that once again reflected Paul's unflagging pride in his nation and its achievements."Thirty years ago I was driving the Gulf Freeway in Houston, headed home on Galveston Island, when a local radio station announced a Mars Lander had separated from Viking and was headed for a Mars landing. For a guy born on 20 July - see Apollo 11 - it was like winning the lottery a second time." Colin |

The London "Daily Telegraph" has also published a well-written obituary for Paul Haney, which compliments nicely the "Times" tribute noted by Dom.Colin |
