If we can knight General Norman Schwarzkopz and Mayor Rudolph Guliani then why was Neil Armstrong never knighted? Not to put down what the other two did, but the first man to walk on the moon surely rates more than a mayor and a general. And whose bright idea was it to knight Elton John? |

Given the current UK government's "cash for honours" scandal/slease we should scrap all of this antiquated nonsense, NOW.Gone are the days when merit was the only reason for an honour. How long did it take for Frank Whittle to get knighted? 30+ years after inventing the jet engine and emigrating to a country that valued him more. If Dame Edna can get honoured, Elton is a logical consequence... Paul |

I have a suspicion that Neil Armstrong would politely decline the offer, if it were made. He has often pointed out that the moon landings were the efforts of thousands of people, not just one man.Now Buzz, on the hand... |

Buzz has some British heritage so maybe it would be easier for him to get a knighthood.I wonder what would happen if the Queen asked Neil for an autograph? |

Well, with her holding that sword over him, I'd imagine he'd oblige... |

Don't forget the Armstrong family is Scottish, which counts as the UK of GB, like it or not. Maybe Neil would take a beknighting ceremony as an opportunity to express his long-supressed Scottish militance and push for "freedom" for his ancestral homeland Cheers, Kevin |
