Quoted from the Internet Movie Database: Much to director Ron Howard's surprise, Conrad auditioned for a part in "Apollo 13", genuinely wanting to be in the film. Howard couldn't find a part for him, but was overjoyed to meet him anyway. |

There was another episode of Home Improvement where Ken Bowersox, Steve Hawley and one other astronaut are on 'Tool Time'. It's the one where Tim and Al go into training for a shuttle flight. |

I was just wondering if any astronaut cameos were made in The Six Million Dollar man or not? They had some pretty strong NASA and Air Force backing on that show. I do recall in one episode "The Rescue of Athena One" that Jules Bergman made a cameo as his normal ABC News Science Editor self, describing a space mission. But I don't recall seeing any astronauts in the show (it has been years though). One trips to Edwards, they would show some interesting hardware in the background as in one episode I spied NASA 905, the Shuttle SCA but from the days before it got converted over to the carrier aircraft. So except for the yellow NASA band on the tail, it looked like an ordinary 747. |

Found this from Tom's link on Pete Conrad, some other cameos: - Stowaway to the Moon (1975) (TV) .... News Commentator
- "The Planets" (1999) TV Series .... Himself (unknown episodes)
- Space Shuttle Discovery: John Glenn Launch (1998) (TV) (as Pete Conrad) .... Himself/coanchor
- "Beverly Hills, 90210" .... Himself (1 episode, 1996)
- Nancy's Choice (1996) TV Episode (as Charles 'Pete' Conrad Jr.) .... Himself
- Plymouth (1991) (TV) (as Charles "Pete" Conrad Jr.) .... Himself
- For All Mankind (1989) (voice) (as Charles P. Conrad Jr.) .... Narrator (Apollo 12)
- Spaceflight (1985) (TV) (as Pete Conrad) .... Himself
Was a watcher of the earlier 90210. I am blank on his appearance. Guess was part of the blend in large crowd. |

I was told this past week of a John Glenn appearance on Frazier, supposed to have been very funny. Glenn is in the booth with his first take, recalling the high point of his mission. Meanwhile, Ros and Frazier are arguing outside, unaware of Glenn's antics, which included an elaborate pantomime of seeing aliens. Frazier returns to the booth, and says basically, "So where were we?" and Glenn says he wants to do it over, never mind. Done with a lot of comic elan. But this is a second hand report. I never saw the episode myself. |

Pete Conrad did commercials for McDonnell Douglas after the DC10's were grounded in the late '70s (I believe it was 1979). I remember the commercials and he discussed how safe the jet is and how comprehensive their safety culture is. He was clearly the right "voice of experience" and credibility for McDD at that very trying time. |

I happen to be channel surfing when I caught Glenn talking so I watched that scene when it was aired before.Really thought Mr Glenn acting was like natural to him. |

Going back many years I seem to remember Scott Carpenter doing an ad for 'Philadelphia' (the cheese type product) not the location. |

Some of the ads mentioned are on YouTube - Personally, I find this Actifed one with Schirra, Gordon and Bean hilarious... And this one with Wally and Donn is interesting - how often do you ever see footage of Eisele speaking later in life? |

Don't know if this counts as a cameo but in the German movie "Good-bye Lenin" which is set in East Berlin of the years 1989 and '90, the mission of Sigmund Jähn is of significance for the story and some TV footage of the mission is shown.

I just love the Armstrong piece. Bits of film like that just transport me to that time and send goose bumps down my back. What an incredible thing to be doing in the early sixties! Getting a new job that entailed GOING TO THE MOON!! If NASA was given the budget and told, "Get to Mars in 10 years", I think that feeling might just be felt again. Thanks for finding those clips, just brilliant! |

In the Armstrong clip I was amused to see how much son Neil has grown to look like father Stephen over the years. |

A year later, I finally remembered to ask Scott Carpenter about this when he was in town last night. Indeed, he consulted for the underwater sequences - didn't do any diving or have screen time - said he was quite honored to be asked to help with a Bond movie, particularly a Connery one, as Connery was the best Bond in his opinion - though he's very impressed with the new Bond, Daniel Craig, too. |

It was for the Holden Apollo, GM's rebadged Toyota Camry, in the very early 90's. Aldrin appeared in a full space suit and extolled the "power of Apollo". It didn't run long. |

I just watched the episode of 90210 that Pete Conrad "starred" in. Using my netflix subscription I got Season 6 Disk 4. I think it was the 1995-1996 season. Conrad was playing himself and giving away an award at the college. He only had a couple of lines, and he tried to crack a joke. I think he was on screen for less than two minutes. I never had the chance to meet Pete Conrad. It made me think that if he were alive today I think he would really enjoy all the autograph shows. All of his crewmates have been attending them (Gordon, Bean, Weitz, Kerwin, even Gordo Cooper before he died). |

Pete Conrad was a guy to meet! His sense of humor was infectious. If there had never been a space program, he could have made it as a standup comedian. |

I was reminded of the Scott Carpenter role in "Never Say Never Again" discussed in this thread when browsing through Buzz Aldrin's new book today. On P.182, he mentions shooting underwater shark B-roll footage for the Bond movie "For Your Eyes Only." I am beginning to wonder if there was an early-80s Bond movie that didn't have an astronaut involved... |

Here's an unusual one - over a decade before he became an astronaut, Al Worden was in the 1955 movie The Long Gray Line, set at West Point and filmed there using cadets like Al as extras. Al appears in at least two scenes - a mess hall scene, and as this image shows where he plays Omar Bradley on graduation day. |

I wish I had known this before. I would definitely have asked Al Worden about his experiences with Tyrone Power and Maureen O'Hara during the filming of that movie. It would have made for even more interesting stories at the lecture he gave at Autographica 14. |

Until you see Al "Meyow-Meyow" Worden on the show accept the award of the orrery from King Friday of the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, while the puppets all sing to him... you just haven't lived. Al even gets to make a second trip to the moon, in the company of a purple panda, on the way to Planet Purple... |

Worden on Mr. Rogers is a definite. I have it in the video library. I believe he is also wearing the official show gear - a sweater. |

Not a direct astronaut appearance, but I caught a clip of the James Bond film "You Only Live Twice" last weekend. The film involves disappearing US and Soviet spacecraft and cuts to the Soviet Union for a view of their mission control. With the Russian anouncement of liftoff, they cut to the rocket launch and showed a Gemini vehicle departing the pad. I did not stick around for the credits. Does anyone know which launch it is? |

In Sweden we always have the movies with the original sound, and subtitles. But in films targeted at younger children there is also a dubbed version with Swedish artists, actors and other famous people/voices. In the coming days the new cartoon "Planet 51" has premiere and in the voice-over you can also find the Swedish astronaut Christer Fuglesang. If Sweden only has one astronaut - of course this is the movie for him! |

Michael Collins appears in the new film "Youth in Revolt" (Dimension Films). From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Politics may make strange bedfellows, but there is nothing like a movie to attract an Apollo 11 astronaut, an author with a devoted following and the man known as Dr. Death.Actor Michael Cera was so stunned by the sight that he cannot recall what they talked about, but he remembers writer C.D. Payne visiting the "Youth in Revolt" set the day Michigan resident Jack Kevorkian wandered by and astronaut Michael Collins filmed a bit part as a man selling a broken-down trailer. "I was just so baffled that it was happening," Cera said of the conversational convergence. Kevorkian, who made physician-assisted suicide a national issue and himself a household name, lived nearby while Collins had been offered a small role in "Youth" after director Miguel Arteta watched "In the Shadow of the Moon." The 2007 documentary blends the stories of surviving crew members from every Apollo space mission with archival NASA material to paint a portrait of America's space program in its early years. "It was amazing being around him," Cera said of command module pilot Collins. "I didn't have the nerve to ask him anything." |

I recall Scott Carpenter being a host and commentator on a Disney TV special for their opening of the Living Seas in Orlando- about 1980 (?)And- Gordon Cooper did a number of comedic remotes for David Letterman when he was still doing the Late, Late Show on NBC. |

I was surprised to see Apollo 11's Mike Collins appearing this weekend in the new move "Youth in Revolt." Collins has a small part where he sells a dog to the lead character in the film. Apparently the director saw Collins in a recent NASA film and thought he would be excellent for the part.Anyway, be sure to look for Collins on the big screen. Editor's note: Threads merged |

Aldrin on "The Pub Landlord" AKA the Al Murray Show in the UK was hilarious - I'll see if there's a link somewhere - the look on his face when he was asked to autograph a teflon frypan (one of the scientific advances from the moon missions he was told) was priceless! |

In 1968 the Apollo 7 crew, Wally Schirra, Don Eisele and Walt Cunningham appeared on a Bob Hope special along with Barbara Eden (from I Dream of Jeanie) at the the time. The following was obviously scripted, but still funny. Bob Hope asked some silly question about spaceflight and Don Eisele responded with some wry quip. To which Bob Hope responded, "Hey, no one likes a smart astronaut!" In 1971, around the time of Apollo 14, Gordon Cooper did a cameo appearance on "The Courtship of Eddie's Father". Kate Collins (daughter of Mike Collins) has played characters "Natalie" and twin "Janet" on the daytime soap "All My Children" for over 15 years. |
