I was researching photographs, one particularly of Leo DeOrsey's funeral in Washington, DC, and found this fascinating and very early Glenn oral history. DeOrsey was part owner of the Redskins and noted Washington attorney. He volunteered his legal advice to the Mercury astronauts until his death in 1965.Here is the link to the oral history: http://www.jfklibrary.org/Asset+Tree/Archives/Oral+History/Glenn_John_H.htm In it he refers to a May 1963 Mercury astronaut visit at the White House (after Gordo's flight), during which unnamed astronauts are described as suggesting more Mercury flights. The Glenns were in Japan at the time at the request of the Dept. of State. I think it's a fascinating oral history and thought to recommend it here, in case readers hadn't seen it. | |
