I’m trying to find photos or information about the 1999 UACC show (believe it was that one, perhaps 1998) where the Apollo 12 crew appeared together to sign autographs for fans. Were any members here present for that show? Do I recall correctly that it was in LA? I read accounts about that show years ago but can’t seem to find the information now. Was eager to see photos from the show. I believe the story I read (perhaps it was in Autograph Magazine) said that it was the last time all three crew members were together. Anyone know the details from that event? Thanks in advance. |

The show as held June 26 to June 27, 1999 (a month before collectSPACE came online) at The Beverly Garland Hotel in North Hollywood. Conrad died the following month from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Here is a photo of Conrad, Gordon and Bean from that weekend via Getty Images: |

The guys were together one more time after that show. They filmed a documentary for the Speedvision channel, sitting around a table reminiscing at Gordon's house, I believe. After the filming they drove up to Rancho Cucamonga CA in Dick’'s convertible and visited Penwal Industries, which was building the replica F-1 engines for the Saturn V display in Huntsville. |

Awesome intel from both of you, thanks. Had no clue that they were together one last time. I believe Gordon may have worked for Penwal at the time? Another member emailed me that their signing fee that weekend was $20 each! |

I was incorrect on one detail in my post above. From my interviews with Bean and Gordon in October, 2007:Al Bean: “The last time we were together…We did a thing for Pete. He was somehow connected with the people at Speed Channel TV, and we went out to his house out in California, and they did TV of us and still photos of us for half a day or more for a program on the Speed Channel.” Dick Gordon: “Last time we were together was at an event at…I was doing some part time work where they built the Saturn V replica for Huntsville…the one they put in vertically erect. We had meeting at Pete’s house together [The Speed Channel taping] and then we went together out to Penwal Industries out in Rancho Cucamonga. That’s east of LA out by the Fontana racetrack. We had spent time at Pete’s house and then we drove in Pete’s car to Penwal Industries. He had a Lexus. And that’s the last time I thing I recall we were all together. [At] Penwal we had some pictures taken with their replica F-1 engine that they had not yet shipped to Huntsville. He [Pete] died on July the 8th, and…we had the big ceremony at Huntsville commemorating the unveiling of the Saturn V that month just the day before Pete was buried at Arlington.” The folks at Penwal were kind enough to share some of the photos from that day with me. One can be found on page 113 of Footprints in the Dust. |

I was there for that event. They had a long line and were all very friendly. It was terrible that Conrad died like eight days after that event. |

All three were scheduled to appear at Autographica 1 in the autumn of 1999. I was fortunate to meet and spend time with both Dick and Al in the years that followed but the loss of Pete has remained with me ever since. |

Yes, I was very much looking forward to meeting the whole Apollo 12 crew at the UK Autographica when it was announced. Then shortly after that, shocked and saddened to learn of Conrad's passing. |
