Come on down guys, Autographica 16 is underway... but quiet as yet. Already seen and talked to many of the regular cSers.

Bruce Melnick is taking the time to talk and pose for photos at the table. I'm in for his lecture today. Will report back later.

An enjoyable if slightly quiet day.

Plus points as always was getting to spend time in the company of the astronauts, downside was the layout of the event being spread over so many rooms and corridors. I always prefer the Birmingham layout where everything is in one room (more or less!).

Leonov looked very well indeed and at £40 ($60) was good value in my opinion. He didn't seem to have lost any of the warmth or vitality that he had when I first met him several years ago. Rick took some fantastic photos and I'm sure he'll share one or two.

Great to see Al Worden as usual who provided some fine inscriptions.

As for Stafford, when his minder tried to kid me that signing after Leonov and Slayton on a litho of all three was a "completion" I walked away.

Apart from that, spending time in the company of a few beautiful women (sorry Paul C and Paul P, you just don't make the grade!) was a real hardship... not.

Good to see most of the usual crowd: the too-many-to-mention-Pauls, John Ff, John M, Rick, Fred, Andy, Rob, Kim, etc.

Alexei was great; in good form, and I don't know why but he always makes me want to smile when talking to him! He just comes across as very likeable. Al was in good form too, Tom Stafford did some jolly nice inscriptions for me (but to me he does look quite frail. )

As a complete aside, who was the tall, glamorous woman who was signing next to the General's table?

That would be Tanya Roberts I believe who was was in "A View to a Kill" with Roger Moore. Very attractive woman, very poor film!

I actually thought Tom Stafford looked in much better health this time round than he did last time. He seemed to enjoy the show as well which is nice to see.

Still very quiet....

I'm hoping the 'Heathrow Crew' might turn up to cheer me up!

I would guess that this was the quietest Autographica of them all but nonetheless I really enjoyed it.

I quite liked the new venue. I thought that the rooms were nice and intimate and well lit. It was an awesome location to view the planes taking off from Heathrow (the hotel was situated right next to the runway) and parking was free.

Edgar Mitchell was missed and had he been there it would have made a big difference. So too if Glynn Lunney had made it as originally scheduled, but Al Worden was great as always and Leonov and Stafford looked great side by side.

Again what made it was seeing friends and just milling around having a laugh. It killed me not to get my Saturn V model base signed by Tom Stafford but for once I resisted due to the cost.

We have a year to wait for the next one. Perhaps fatigue is setting in? It is scheduled for 23rd-25th September 2011 at the Thistle Hotel, Heathrow.

I hope that doesn't mean there has been a change of plan because a post was made by Showmasters on their forum at at the end of last month saying the next show was 29th April - 1st May at the Birmingham Hilton.

I don't think I could wait a full year for the next one!

Paul - I was just going by the leaflets handed out at the show. I too hope that there is a Birmingham event in between.

I wondered if that was where you'd seen it, I think I was just hoping it was a mistake!

Maybe the cost of running this show is just getting too expensive for a twice yearly event, especially at a venue like the Birmingham Hilton. Having seen the two hotels I would guess costs more than the Thistle and all it's 'charms'!

I thoroughly enjoyed today at the Autographica. It was wonderful to see Alexei Leonov and Tom Stafford again, and this time together. Also Al Worden who gave such a thought provoking lecture. Was expecting it to be much the same as last year but he did a completely different talk, so well done to him. A great character and a natural speaker.

The first time I had seen Bruce Melnick and his lecture was very interesting and put over in a very friendly way.

Good to meet some cS members, especially Geoffrey Bowman who kindly signed his two chapters he wrote in 'Footprints In The Dust' for me. Thank you Blackarrow. It was also nice to meet Ken Willoughby there as well.

Hopefully the next Autographica will be in April and not have to wait until September.

Well the Heathrow Crew DID put in an appearance (Well: 2/3 of it!) and they DID cheer me up!

Linda and I enjoyed meeting so many friends old and new and hope the tradition can continue for a while longer yet....

Well it was my first show as a seller rather than an autograph hunter. Thanks to all those who came up and bought a copy of my book, "Live TV From the Moon". Thanks also to those who just came up to chat!! The highlight for me was giving a copy to Gen. Stafford - the man repsonsible for color TV in space. I can't tell you what a thrill it was to see him reading it during the quiet moments at his table. Such an honorable man. It was also nice to give Al Worden a copy as well, as he answered a number of questions about the TV system on Apollo 15. It was quite a strange feeling to sign his copy!

While a quieter show, it did allow more in depth discussions with the astronauts (and all the guests for that matter).

Just on the subject of the timing of the next show, when Edgar Mitchell cancelled Dave did say in the cancellation thread on the Showmasters forum that he was hoping he could reschedule for the April show so hopefully there is going to be one.

By any chance, did anybody get an extra Leonov SP in his WSS? I can surely use one ...especially with an inscription like 1st Spacewalker or date of the first spacewalk on it? Or maybe I can trade since I will be at the ASF show in Florida if you need something.

Hope you guys all enjoyed the show and I look forward to the April event in Birmingham.

By the way Rick, I just saw the photo you took of Leonov and Stafford together in the Sightings section - what a fantastic shot!

The Autographica gala dinner on Saturday was most definitely the "Night of the Generals." It was such a privilege to see these two elderly men, who have both seen better days, gaining such obvious enjoyment meeting again, in what is still the 35th anniversary year of their historic link-up in space.

It was a wonderful, poignant moment, although few in the audience understood the significance of a sentence spoken in Russian by Stafford, until Leonov translated it for us: "General Alexei is my brother." The applause was loud and warm, and a few tears may even have trickled down a few cheeks.

Having watched Leonov's launch on live TV in a Cocoa Beach motel-room, followed a few hours later by the spectacle of Stafford's launch from three-and-a-half miles away at KSC, I honestly felt that I had come full circle. I was reminded of what Vance Brand told me two years earlier: ASTP did not actually end the Cold War, but it set a good example for others to follow.

As one who is (just) old enough to remember the fear in my parents' eyes during news coverage of the Cuban Missile Crisis, I was delighted to hear these two Cold War warriors speaking so warmly of the friendships forged by that first international space link-up, and on Sunday I had the privilege of being photographed between the Generals: a picture to be treasured.

Not for the first time, I find myself turning to a favourite poem: "Ulysses" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson:

Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

In the mad rush to get the Eurostar back to Cologne, I managed to leave all the contact info everyone gave me in storage in the UK. Could anyone who took photos of Gen. Stafford reading "Live TV From the Moon" at his table please email me?

Well there's a least one copy of Footprints in the Dust signed by Alexei Leonov - mine!

I flew to London on Saturday with the specific mission of getting Leonov's signature on my chapter as he was the focus of Soviet efforts to send men to the Moon. After I presented him with a copy to take back to Moscow - he exclaimed "I get something for free!" - he posed for a quick photo.

After my encounter with Cosmonaut Leonov I had the good fortune to bump into Geoffrey Bowman and we had a pint to celebrate 'mission accomplished'.

Just before I left for my flight back to Dublin, someone told me that Leonov was spotted walking around the show with the book under his arm for safe keeping. Maybe he was afraid it would be 'borrowed' by one of the astronauts!

Great to see everyone again, Paul C, Paul B, and Rick, hope to see you all again soon.

I sat next to Tom Stafford at the dinner and he was sitting next to Alexei Leonov, those two are such great mates, and when at the end of the evening they did the double act that was the highlight of the night.

An added bonus was I asked them if they would sign there name cards from the dinner and Tom said it was not a problem and then Alexei signed his well that was an added bonus a great show, and again the company on the day was great, it was also nice to speak to the ASF girls Diana, Linn, and the others they all were so polite and asked how I was it was great to see them again.

The other astronauts were great. Al Wordon was as always great company and to talk to out of the show rooms, and Bruce Melnick was a true gentleman, interesting to talk to at the drinks reception on Friday night and a pleasure to meet his wife, they were both fantastic company and a pleasure to meet.

Before you know it the next show will be here again soon so I wish you all the best and see you soon.

To all the attendees who hung around our stall all weekend, asked for and received discounts, left bags behind our tables, asked for insider data, had their egos massaged, drank our champagne: some acknowledgment would have been appreciated!

I think the commitment/effort/investment of the dealers (The Space Station, Mick & Linda Fletcher, Space Boosters, the ASF girls et al) is too often ignored....

Autographica 16 is over. Bring on Autographica 17.

Good show. Good guests. Great company.

To Jason, Dave, Paul and your crew - your hard work IS appreciated though I daresay the amount of heartache you undergo is not fully understood by all - including myself. Please persevere; you have set a quite extraordinary high standard for these unique events. Long may they continue...

Always a pleasure to see Mick and Linda SpaceSignings, David and Linda SpaceStation and Nick and Bryar SpaceBoosters. Without you these gatherings would not be the same.

Nice to meet Dwight and good luck with the "Live TV from the Moon" book.

To Rick M - your ASTP CDRs photos posted here are superb and capture the very essence of what was the main event of the weekend.

Always a delight to meet up with friends old and new: Dave "Bad Boy" C, Aileen and Tony, Richard P, Paul P, Carl, Howard, Nigel, Hakan, Sheila and David, Miles C, Mark L, Thomas, Team Willoughby, Ciaran and Ian and the Blackarrow - good luck with "our" book "Footprints in the Dust".

Hope to see you all at the Birmingham Metropole in the Spring and at the Radisson for the Autumn show.

Loved it, went with a work colleague and my daughter sadly not eough time in the day.

I enjoyed having my pic being taken with Alexei Leonov and Tom Stafford, thats one for my walls and Bruce Melnicks lecture was very enjoyable, even had time to chat to him while getting his autograph and I get the impression he was surprised when asked to add "Sempar Paratus" to which he exclaimed "wow" and Al Worden was a pleasure to meet again.

Great to see Nick and Bryar Deakin and buy a few goodies and Dave Bryant as usual an absolute gent and the framed Ablative heatshield has pride of place above my Television which certainly gets a few curious looks!

Anyway I cant wait to next years!

But I must say that Ricks photos and Geoffs post with the sentiment it carries just goes to show that although in times like the Cold war such everlasting friendships can be forged, im quite envious that I never attended now.

Living so far away and having already made a brief trip to Europe earlier this summer, I wasn't able to attend Autographica. I would have loved the opportunity to meet Alexei Leonov and see him together with General Stafford. However, I did avail myself of the pre-order option and today I received a beautiful, wonderfully inscribed photo of General Leonov. Thanks to the Autographica folks for making such a thing possible!
