From Lunar Legacies:
The uploading of the Lunar Legacies Space Memorabilia Auction 42 to Invaluable and Auction Zip has been completed, and it is ready for viewing and pre-bidding.

Due to the number of lots in this timed auction, it will be split into two sessions each starting at 8 a.m. PDT on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23 and 24, 2023.

  • Session 1 - Timed Auction
    Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023 starting at 8 a.m. PDT
Lots 1 through 599: Miscellaneous, Mercury, Gemini, Apollo
    Invaluable | Auction Zip

  • Session 2 - Timed Auction
    Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023 starting at 8 a.m. PDT
Lots 600 through 1068: Apollo-Soyuz, Skylab, Space Shuttle, Russian
    Invaluable | Auction Zip
You must register at Invaluable or AuctionZip to bid.

There are still many descriptions yet to do (and a few photos), but all should be completed in a week. The photos and bidding numbers are correct and you may pre-bid now if you so choose once you are registered.

Because it is a timed auction, mail-in bids are not possible.

Be careful, the lot 982: Complete Set of Three Soviet Cosmonaut Wings offers not authentic items but rather copies.

Authentic wing badges have the mark of Moscow mint on the back and differs in some other small details. This is not the first time that Lunar Legacies offers not authentic Soviet/Russian items but rather well made copies.

It's difficult to be an expert in all things space. With some items, you have to rely on the consignor knowing what they are putting up for sale. I'm sure you will agree there are consignors, at times, who don't have the requisite knowledge to know what they are selling.

Many Soviet and Russian covers which are offered as being flown definitively have not been in space.

Lot 1021 is a picture which Alexey Leonov presented to Colonel-General of Aviation Andrey Rytov on March 22, 1965. Rytov was Head of the Air Force Political Organs Administration at the Political Headquarters of the Soviet Army and Navy. Belyayev and Leonov landed with Voskhod-2 on March 19, 1965. They had to stay two nights in their capsule before a helicopter brought them to Perm.

The photo is identical to photos which flew with Voskhod-2. I assume it was flown.

A lot of choice and rare items in the auction, some at affordable prices.

Not surprisingly, Apollo lunar mission lots sold for high prices, especially Armstrong and Apollo 11 items. Many vintage photos sold briskly, even non-red numbered prints. A lot of Shuttle-flown Robbins medallions sold in the $2,000-$2,700 range.

But the big jaw-dropper? Dr Anna Fisher's blue NASA flight suit with STS-51A and Shuttle 'Mach-25' patches: $10,400 (before commission) when the hammer fell. It was the highest price for any lot. Incredible.

Lott 977 Yuri Gagarin signed card. I'm wondering why it was passed. Perhaps the starting bid was too high at $500?

I thought maybe it was too perfect and pristine. I love it but it looks a lot like it was too good to be true. Thoughts?
