From Lunar Legacies:
The uploading of the Lunar Legacies Space Memorabilia Auction 41 catalog to Invaluable and Auction Zip has been completed, and it is ready for viewing and pre-bidding.

Due to the number of lots in this timed auction, it will be split into two sessions each starting at 8:000 a.m. PDT on Saturday and Sunday, May 13 and 14, 2023.

  • Session 1 - Timed Auction
    Saturday, May 13, 2023 starting at 8 a.m. PDT (1500 GMT)
    Lots 1 through 528
    (Miscellaneous, Mercury, Gemini, Apollo)

    Invaluable | Auction Zip

  • Session 2 - Timed Auction
    Sunday, May 14, 2023 starting at 8 a.m. PDT (1500 GMT)
    Lots 529 through 929
    (Apollo-Soyuz, Skylab, Space Shuttle, Russian)

    Invaluable | Auction Zip

You must register at Invaluable to bid if not already pre-registered.

Many descriptions still need to be written (and a dozen photos need to be uploaded), but all should be completed in a week. The photos and bidding numbers are correct and you may pre-bid now if you so choose once you are registered.

Because it is a timed auction, there is no mail-in bidding.

A few thoughts on Lot 83: Original Mercury Spacesuit Glove:
  1. The glove is a from a Goodrich factory display suit since it does not have the bladder. I have seen these before. Goodrich factory display suits were not complete on the inside (no bladders or ventilation ducts) but had complete exteriors with the exception that some hardware was mocked up.

The bladders in the Mercury gloves were rather robust and did not tend to decay like the later Gemini glove bladders which were made of different and thinner material for enhanced dexterity when pressurized. The strip of red rubber visible on the inside is for filling the gap where the bladder would normally be so that the outer fabric patterns did not need to be re-cut when assembling the fabric to the wrist ring.

  2. Mercury gloves are marked with the last name written on the inside of the glove, not on the exterior of the glove using first initials.

  3. This is a later style glove from what Grissom used in training and used in flight. Grissom’s flight gloves were an earlier model that did not have the white satin stretch material on the wrist and fingers.

Lunar Legacies is auctioning one of my project models. It is a beaut.

This is a Grumman Lunar Module model from my personal collection. To my eye it is exceptional in just about every way. Missing no parts, very minimal yellowing or other aging.

For those here who don't know of me, I have been restoring Mercury, Gemini and Apollo contractor models for people all over the world, for over 20 years. My work is in some of the finest private space memorabilia collections in USA, Canada, England, and Europe.

Please, if you or another collector you know are looking for a very high quality contractor Lunar Module model, here it is.

I still track global model sales and have not personally seen an example on offer even close to this level of quality in many years, with the exception of at a ajor auction house, with a hammer price of over $10,000.
