The Winter 2021 American Space Museum charity auction will be held on Dec. 4 beginning at 12 noon EST (1700 GMT).The sale will focus on items that make good gifts for space enthusiasts. Whoever bids on lot 125: Neil McGann's Apollo area badge with Boeing 15 year pin you may also want lot 115: Boeing and Apollo 11 mission booklet. The booklet has Neil McGann's signature on it. |

Took a look at Lots 115 and 125 and those items are not in my wheelhouse, however a great recommendation for all those who were bidding on one or the other but not both. Also, when scanning the thumbnail photos I missed the Boeing 15 year pin.I very much agree with your assessment and these items combined would create a very nice display. You must have consigned the two lots, regardless, point this information should get you a big thanks from the bidder who ends up with both lots. |

I currently have one of the last remaining, in my possession, Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Flown Kapton lucites in the current American Space Museum auction. These were limited to a total production run of 50 and were an instant hit with collectors. Please have a look. |

Our auction starts at noon EST on Dec. 4th live at the American Space Museum in Titusville. I would like to show a few of the highlights: A flown and lunar surface landed Apollo 15 cover from Ken Havekotte with the best inscription I have ever seen from LMP Jim Irwin. This one is worth a look. - Aviator John Glenn 1957 Trans Continental World Speed Record flown cover. This operation Bullet cover is as rare as they come with only one known in existence.
A rare chance at John Glenn's Pre-NASA fame and history. - Another awesome item is: General Tom Stafford's personal flown ASTP Beta cloth that will be Framed and dedicated to the winner by General Stafford with a engraved plaque with your name.
There are so many great items in this auction with many flown flags and hard to find items. Please take a look. |

Apparently there was another "similar" Glenn F8U carried/flown cover two days later after the young Marine aviator made his historic trans-continental world speed record flight.
Glenn flew the second cover on the same Crusader aircraft used for "Operation Bullet," however, it was not a part of the speed record flight nor related to "Operation Bullet." The original flown cover on his July 16, 1957 record breaking supersonic flight is the only known cover that Glenn took with him. It had been a part of my John Glenn binder collection.Another unusual cover to check out is a flown Apollo-Soyuz airmail envelope, one of only 25 covers flown on the joint US-USSR first rendezvous, docking, and crew transfer in space (July 1975). All five of the ASTP flight crew (3 astronauts and 2 cosmonauts) had signed the cover while on-orbit in space during the mission, thus becoming the only astronaut signed covers while in space from 1961-75. It had been in the possession of mission cosmonaut Valeriy Kubasov, the Soyuz 19 flight engineer, and later owned by space enthusiast-collector Ken Havekotte.

There is at least one other cover flown on this flight. The cover is documented exactly the same as this one but addressed to Harry Gordon. A dealer had it at a stamp show and said it had come from Harry Gordon's estate. I was not able to look at the back so I don't know if anything was written on the back of the cover. Unfortunately the dealer had already sold it so I wasn't able to obtain it — a couple hours too late. |

Thanks for that update info Tom about a second flown cover as I am not surprised if it had been addressed to Harry Gordon, but I had been under the impression that Glenn only flew a single cover on that record breaking flight and that Gordon had a flown cover by Glenn two days later, but not related to Operation Bullet. Perhaps one day we will be able to see it posted here. |

Yes, that inscription to Ken on the Jim Irwin Apollo 15 cover is quite remarkable. Pretty cool. |

As usual, another great auction from the American Space Museum. Artifact collectors came home with some great pieces and I imagine photograph consignors are happy with their realized prices. |
