What on Earth is going on here? Lot 0023 (I think).Supposedly STS-41B flown. Pilot "Edward G. Gibson"? Inside joke? |

Boy is that weird as I have never seen anything like it before. For some reason though, it doesn't look to be an inside joke.In addition to the wrong astronaut Gibson name on the cert, note that there is another error on the text; Challenger on Mission 41-B/STS-11 was not the 5th Challenger orbital flight, but the 4th! Maybe the pin was indeed flown, but the wrongly drafted COA was prepared by the pin's unknowing recipient with autopen-types of the crewmen. |

This would be a good question for John Fabian as this is supposed to be from his personal collection. If it is from him directly, a forgery is unlikely. |

Stupid me! I had forgotten the cert had been presented to Fabian, an earlier flown shuttle mission specialist, so it must be some sort of gag gift presentation. What is the depiction on the pin? |

The pin appears to be the Air Force Space and Missile Badge: Originally authorized in 1982 and then in 1993 renamed the Space and Missile badge. The badge is awarded to officers in the astronaut and space/missile operations career field and to enlisted personnel in the space systems career field. Individuals must have performed in a space duty position in a space unit for 12 months to receive the basic space badge. Maybe the wrong "Gibson" was included because the certificate was prepared by the U.S. Air Force, rather than NASA? |

Still the incorrect mission info in combination with Ed Gibson is very suspect. I would love to hear John Fabian's explanation. |

According to the official flight kit manifest, there were nine U.S. Air Force space badges flown on STS-41B. |

Like Robert pointed out, which I was thinking as well from my above posting, the Air Force Space and Missile pin/badge apparently did fly on 41-B (my Dad has one of these — a similar version — from his military service during the 1960s, but of course, his was not flown). It looks as though mistakes were made by the Air Force while researching and providing the COA for the flown badge, if that was the case. The wrong Gibson name was made along with a mission fact. |

From Lunar Legacies: The uploading of the Lunar Legacies 26 auction to Invaluable and Auction Zip has been completed, and it is ready for viewing and pre-bidding for the live auction on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 9 a.m. Pacific Time. The buyer commission has been the same for years at 19%, but due to rising expenses, it is increasing by 3% to a new figure of 22%. Please bid accordingly. About half of the descriptions are left to write, but all should be completed by the end of this week. The photos and bidding numbers are correct and you may pre-bid now if you so choose once you are registered. Mail-in bids are accepted so if you cannot be there live for the auction, please email with your list. All mail bids must be confirmed. |

Odd auction... won a few, bid on some of the Robbins medallions, but despite being the high bidder did not win — not sure why. If going to have secret minimums, why not start bidding there? Would have gone higher if others had bid, but bid didn't go over minimum. Oh well. |

Yeah, I was surprised to see there were apparently reserves on some items. I thought Donnis had done away with those and just set the opening at the reserve. But I did get what I really wanted and a couple of other things as well. So for me a good auction. |

Invoices will go out to all winning bidders no later than 2 days after the auction. I received my invoice on June 24. If you were expecting to receive one and haven't, I would suggest contacting Lunar Legacies. |

I won a few items and received an invoice quickly. As far as having been high bidder but didn’t reach min, not sure, however I am sure if you contact Donnis, he will work with you and consigner. I have been bidding on Lunar Legacies from the beginning and have always had good outcomes. Items are always as described and items arrive well packaged. In complete transparency and honesty, my only knock is that; as this auction gains more notoriety, greater number of items per auction and far more bidders, it can take awhile to receive your items, since it is just Donnis and his wife, Jan to invoice, package and ship. Which in the big picture is not really a knock at all, but more of a consequence of the auction being successful which is in all of ours best interest! |

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately I've tried e-mailing a number of times and no response has been received at all. Concerning as I was very pleased with the items I had won. |

I am sure that Don and Jan are completely swamped getting items packaged and shipped. I have had the same issue with emails, however don't worry, Don will get back to you. |

Yes, I am a bit behind because of unexpected company from Florida, the holidays and Spacefest, so my apologies. As for the reserves, Invaluable does not allow preset reserves on anything, so I must put them on my sheet and manually bid things up to the reserve, because I like to start all things out at an attractive price. There were only about 9 or 10 reserves out of 700+ lots. Fabian had a reserve on his unflown Robbins medallions, so email me and I will be glad to run it by him. Thanks. |
