I noticed for Lot# 258, the STS-111 flown mail, it mentions the only other mass produced mail to be flown on a shuttle, on STS-9. Of course, it should be STS-8/Challenger, in 1983... |

Yes, you caught a typo. STS-8 not STS-9. |

I don't like the "Neil Armstrong", am I being paranoid? |

Fair enough. It was only the "fish-hook" style of the "A" that got me wondering. |

It appears that the Apollo 1 crew ID badges have been withdrawn from this auction. |

Richard Stonely had a set of these... perhaps he is the consignor? |

I was surprised to see so many of the Apollo flown material presentations unsold? |

Not I... chop shops are in overdrive producing the glut of micro-trinkets shredded from formally intact artifacts (ablator plugs, kapton, soap bars, bungee cords, etc.) ...many listed on eBay. |

I must say that none of my prebids won and I could not figure out how to bid on line. Searched all over the site and could not find where to join the live bidding. Took the day off and I had to walk away from this auction with money to burn. |

I forgot about the Apollo 11 flown beta patch on this auction. Went for $1800. If someone here got that, congrats. |

The provenance on that "flown" patch was in my opinion questionable and it was not signed. |

The Apollo 11 flag and the beta patch that were stated as flown on the mission both suffered from weak provenance. Each was accompanied by a LOA from Aldrin's stepson stating they were flown but neither were signed or inscribed as flown, nor were they mounted on something signed by an astronaut. They probably were flown as claimed but without stronger provenance they will never be worth anything like as much as flown items with solid provenance. |

A good point... individuals who accept questionable or ambiguous provenance presented by the auction house assume the risk that any future resale attempts will be impeded by questions regarding authenticity. Verbal confirmation of provenance conferred by an original consignor is a non-enduring/perishable attribute (regardless of the consigners assumed credibility). |
