Space Camp announcement
2010 Space Camp Hall of Fame silent auction

The 2010 Space Camp Hall of Fame silent auction will benefit the U.S. Space & Rocket Center Foundation with 100% of the proceeds going towards Space Camp Scholarships. Last year's items included: Huntsville experiences, signed celebrity and astronaut items; and items flown in space. A full list of auction items will be placed on the Space Camp website.

For the first time this year, several lots have been made available for bidding on eBay for those that are unable to make it to Huntsville.

Among the lots offered on eBay are space artifacts and memorabilia:

  • Hoot Gibson Flight Suit with Name Tag & Patches
NASA flight suit worn by Hoot Gibson with his Johnson Space Center name tag, STS 41-B and STS 61-C mission patches on it. The flight suit was not flown in space but was a part of Hoot's T-38 flight gear.
  • STS-29 Space Flown Polo - Astronaut Bob Springer
Robert C. Springer donated his STS-29 crew polo which he worn while on orbit in 1989. On this mission Col. Springer and his crew deployed Tracking and Data Relay Satellite-4 into a geosynchronous orbit and completed many different scientific experiments, which included protein crystal growth, chromosomes and plant cell division, and filmed Earth with a hand-held IMAX camera.
  • STS-83 Space Flown Polo - Astronaut Don Thomas
Don Thomas donated his STS-83 crew polo which was flown on STS-83 and STS-94. The STS-83 Microgravity Science Laboratory ( MSL-1) Spacelab mission, which was cut short April of 1997 because of problems with one of the Shuttle's three fuel cell power generation units. STS-94, the re-flight of the MSL-1, launched in July of 1997. This polo shirt's total duration in space was 474 hours and 57 minutes, traveling 7.8 million miles in 314 orbits of the Earth on two space missions.
  • 100th Space Shuttle Flight Commemorative Snoopy
This special edition doll, commemorating the 100th space shuttle flight (Flight STS-92) in October 2000, depicts the Peanuts pooch in full space regalia, complete with NASA flight suit, connected power pack, helmet, and a flowing red scarf. A symbol of excellence in the space flight program, the Snoopy Award program "promotes an environment of quality and flight safety consciousness."
  • Autograped John Glenn Hot Wheels Action Pack
In 1998, to commemorate John Glenn's service to the U.S. space program and specifically STS-95 Mattel produced a special action pack. This special set has an action figure of John Glenn the Mercury Friendship 7 Astronaut, U.S. Senator, and STS-95 Astronaut. This Hot Wheels set is autographed by John Glenn. It is personalized, "To Dan." 2007 Hall of Fame inductee Dan Oates donated this item to the auction.

Thanks to everyone who participated, both on eBay and at the induction ceremony, where 30+ more lots were offered. At the end of the day, we raised the funds to send 18 deserving students to Space Camp!

This was only the second year for a Space Camp silent auction and the first with online bidding. Next year, we hope to bring even more lots online...

All times are CT (US)
