I have a "curiosity"... why did they, (NASA, Russia, Japan...) never add microphones in the landing probes sent to Mars? Why "Curiosity" have not them? Is there any reason for which we can not hear the sounds of Mars?

Or perhaps I'm wrong and they sent it sometime?

From NASA:
Phoenix, like the 1999 Polar Lander, originally had a microphone to hear the sounds of the descent to Mars. It was part of the MARDI system which was turned off to due the small risk that it could trip a critical landing system. So far, no spacecraft has successfully captured the sounds of Mars.

Thank you Robert, but I'm still asking me... why never more from then? Don't be interesting to hear Mars surface?

I believe no additional microphones have been included on Mars Landers because the sounds they would produce are merely a curiosity and serve no real scientific purpose.

If I recall correctly, the microphone included on the Mars Polar Lander was funded by the Planetary Society. I do not recall the cost, but it was not insubstantial.
