Call for Names of New Vehicles for Manned Lunar Exploration Missions

The mission of the manned lunar exploration project to land on the moon has been fully launched and various development and construction work is being stepped up. In order to gather social awareness, the China Manned Space Engineering Office is now launching a campaign for the naming of new spacecraft for the manned lunar exploration mission.

  1. Content and scope of solicitation

    The name of the new generation of manned spacecraft and manned lunar lander (including the definition of the name), all natural citizens of China, legal citizens of China and organizations who love China's manned spaceflight industry can participate.

  2. Activities

    The solicitation activities are organized and implemented in five steps: announcement, preliminary selection, online voting, final selection and result announcement:

    1. Announcement: The solicitation announcement will be issued to the public, and the solicitation will end at 24:00 Beijing Time on September 30, 2023.

    2. Preliminary selection process: Organize a preliminary review of the solicited works, and select no more than 10 proposals to be shortlisted.

    3. Online voting: For the shortlisted names in the primary election, a 7-day online voting will be organized on the special page of the official website of Manned Space Engineering (the results of the online voting are only used as reference factors for the final selection).

    4. The final selection process: Organize and set up a review team composed of experts in aerospace, literature and other fields, comprehensive expert review opinions and online voting results, and select a final naming scheme for each spacecraft.

    5. Result announcement: Officially announce the name of the new spacecraft for manned lunar exploration.

  4. Overall Standard

    1. Basic idea: The relevant naming of the new spacecraft of the manned lunar exploration project should be based on a positive level, fully reflect the core value and related elements of manned spaceflight, and highlight the good image of "a heavy weapon of a great country" and "intelligently made in China."

    2. Creativity requirements: The naming should closely revolve around the theme of this event, focus on the connotation of a single name, and take into account the systematicness, coordination and complementarity of the names of the manned spaceflight series of spacecraft; it reflects the combination of traditional Chinese culture and modern technology, with Chinese characteristics, as well as the distinct implication of technology and exploration, can also represent the characteristics and application value of the spacecraft.

    3. Formal specification: The Chinese name should be concise and concise, in principle no more than four Chinese characters; it should be easy to recognize, remember and promote, and traditional characters and rare characters should not be used in principle.

  5. Activity Rules

    1. The submitted work must be original by the contributor, and the contributor should ensure that he owns the complete copyright of the work, and there is no transfer or transfer of copyright to others. If it involves joint cooperation, work for a job or other situations of different ownership status, it will be regarded as a partner , units or other obligees know and agree to be bound by this statement.

    2. Participants should agree that the organizer of the solicitation activity can modify and refer to the participating works to form the final officially used spacecraft name.

    3. If any legal dispute occurs due to the protection of copyright, privacy right, trademark right, etc., or due to rights defects or false, illegal, improper, or other unreasonable reasons in the submitted works, all legal responsibilities shall be borne by the contributors. It shall be borne by itself and the organizer reserves the right to disqualify its contribution and recover the award.

    4. The submitted works must be submitted for the first time, and before the announcement of the review results of this call for contributions, all contributors shall not transfer or authorize the submitted works to a third party, nor shall they contribute to a third party.

    5. Contributors must keep their own manuscripts, once submitted, they will not be returned.

    6. Once the submitted works are finally accepted by the sponsor, a copyright (free) transfer contract must be signed, and all rights to the submitted works and related materials belong to the sponsor.

    7. The final interpretation right of this activity belongs to the organizer.

  6. Submission method

    1. Submit in Word file format, including the spacecraft name and creative description (within 300 words), as well as the contestant's name, unit/school, and contact information.

    2. Send it to the email address: cmse@cmse.gov.cn before the deadline, and the submission email must be marked with "new spacecraft naming activity."

  7. Rewards

    1. The China Manned Space Engineering Office will issue a commemorative certificate to the authors of the final selected proposals, and arrange to go to the launch site to observe the manned space launch mission.

China reveals names of new spacecraft to land taikonauts on moon

China will "embrace the moon" with a new "dream vessel" designed to land taikonauts on the lunar surface in the next decade.

The China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) on Saturday (Feb. 24) announced the names for its next generation crew spacecraft and lunar lander after soliciting ideas from the Chinese public. The crew module will be known as "Mengzhou" (梦舟, "Dream Vessel" or "Dream Boat" in English), while "Lanyue" (揽月), meaning "embracing the moon," will carry China's astronauts to and from the lunar surface.
