The Soviets had an active meteorological satellite program during Apollo, but despite many many trawls of the internet, and emails to the most popular sites dealing with the Soviet space program, I have never managed to find any of the images from their satellites.

Can anyone suggest any sources of images from the Soviet Union's meteorological satellites 1968-72?

There is a colour photo of the Meteor class satelite in the book "Pokorenie kosmosa" - "The Conquest of Space" - published by the soviet Mashinostroenie publishing house in 1972.

I scanned it and if you let me know your e-mail address I send it to you by return (putting the photo on this page is beyond my skills). The quality is not superb but you have at least something. The photo is most probably from the Exhibition of Soviet Achievements in Moscow where a big part was dedicated to the space exploration.

That sounds interesting, I will send you my email.

What I am really looking for though are pictures taken by the satellite, not pictures of them!

OK, there is a black and white weather picture on the next page of the same book. I send it as well though the quality reminds the Luna 3 pictures of the "dark" side of the Moon

All times are CT (US)
