So, I was doing a little reading today about the Soyuz T-14 flight to Salyut 7 in 1985. According to my reading, this mission was originally planned as a 6 month stay on the station but ended up being only about 2 months because mission commander Vladimir Vasyutin became seriously ill. In fact, some of the reading seems to suggest that he was unable to perform his duties as early as late October of 1985...and the mission didn't end until November 21st. Does anyone know what the illness he was suffering from was? I see that he retired in February of 1986 and I assume its because of the same medical issues.Does anyone know what the illness was that forced an emergency return to Earth? |

He even died in the meantime, yet this was not directly connected to his health problems on Soyuz T14.------------------ Jürgen P Esders Berlin, Germany International Director (Europe), Space Unit Vice President, Weltraum Philatelie e. V. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Astroaddies |

Vladimir Vasyutin was suffering from a very bad urinary tract infection on Soyuz T-14, and had a high fever as well. It took nearly six weeks of antibiotics once back on the ground before he was better! Must have been an absolutely miserable mission

One account I read said he apparently launched with that condition hidden. So he had the problem before he got into orbit (just not as serious). There was apparently a big shakeup in the medical ranks after the flight as well due to what happened. |
