I was wondering if the cost of "nominal" space shuttle post-launch pad refurbishment had been announced now the program has been completed. Each shuttle launch has been estimated at around $450 million, a canceled launch came in at about $1.2 million (for fuel and wages) and repairs and facelift to the flame trench after the STS-124 launch was stated to be in the range of $2.7 million, but that was a one-off just for that repair. I am looking for any figures available for the average cost of preparing the pad for the next shuttle mission following a "nominal" launch and where that is accounted for in the overall NASA budget. Can anyone help please? |

The cost of the pad refurb would be in the shuttle Kennedy Space Center operations budget. And there likely would not be a single line item, since each task would be done by different groups (MLP, pad surface, pad structures, facility plumbing, facility electrical, etc). |
