Beginning with the flight of STS-9, NASA adopted a modified 1983 Airstream Excella motorhome as its Astronaut Transfer Van, better known as the Astrovan, to drive crews between Kennedy Space Center's Operations and Checkout (O&C) Building and the launch pad.Three years later, in the wake of the loss of the space shuttle Challenger and the STS-51L crew, NASA overhauled the interior of the Astrovan before returning it to service with the STS-26 return to flight mission in 1988. Interior imagery of the Astrovan is rare from any era, although the space agency began photo and video documenting the inside of the vehicle toward the end of the shuttle program. So with that in mind, does anyone know of any imagery showing the original interior of the Astrovan as it was used between STS-9 and STS-51L? | |
