KSCartist Member Posts: 2300 From: Titusville, FL USA Registered: Feb 2005	posted October 25, 2009 04:44 PM I know Enterprise was rolled out of Palmdale on Constitution Day in the Bicentennial Year, September 17, 1976. But is there an "official date" for the start of the shuttle program?
Delta7 Member Posts: 1036 From: Ossian IN USA Registered: Oct 2007	posted October 25, 2009 05:06 PM Possibly the date in April 1972 when Congress officially approved funding for the program (a bit of news relayed to John Young and Charlie Duke while they were on the lunar surface, by Capcom Tony England).
moorouge Member Posts: 1089 From: U.K. Registered: Jul 2009	posted October 26, 2009 11:39 AM President Nixon announced the development of a reuseable space shuttle 5th January 1972. However, I suspect that sometime before this official announcement an informal go-ahead was given within the upper echelons of the NASA administration.
