From the Mobile (Alabama) Register: NASA facility near Mississippi's Gulf Coast celebrates 30 years of testing shuttle engines quote: NASA's Stennis Space Center celebrated its 30th anniversary of testing space shuttle engines with the thunderous ignition of a shuttle main engine Thursday at its facility in south Mississippi.Members of the news media and tourists were allowed to witness the test, which lasted about 6 minutes and produced a huge, white cloud of vapor that drifted away from the steel-and-concrete structure on which the rocket engine was mounted.

You have ruined my day, Robert! For the first time in my life, I was within a 40 minute drive of astronauts (Fred Haise, no less!) and I didn't even know about it! Guess I should start reading the newspaper more. ;-) I'm going to go sulk for the rest of the weekend. :-( ------------------ Brian 385th Bombardment Group B-17 Bomber "War Horse" http://warhorse.omegappg.com |

Sorry, Brian. The newspaper articles about this event disagree over whether this was a private, invite-only celebration or open to the public. Either way, no mention of this event appeared in any of my daily Sightings searches until today, after the fact. Sorry. |

Hhheeeyyy...I was just joking. It's cool. It seems like Fred Haise hosts a lot of things there, so I'll get my chance!:-) ------------------ Brian 385th Bombardment Group B-17 Bomber "War Horse" http://warhorse.omegappg.com | |
