Just wondering, what would you consider iconic space pictures?

Clearly there are some from every NASA program. Generally we think of the manned programs pictures, but obviously there are some from unmanned probes, rovers etc. Please name a picture, from either a manned mission or an unmanned mission, that you think is an iconic picture. These can be from any country.

I'll start. This one was actually taken before I was born, but in my opinion is a classic space picture. It's William Pickering, James Van Allen and Wernher von Braun holding up a model of Explorer 1 (the first US probe to go into orbit) at a news conference after confirmation that the probe was in orbit.

  • Mercury 7 in silver suits portrait.
  • Ed White EVA.
  • Buzz Aldrin's Gemini selfie.
  • Apollo 1 post-fire with burnt command module and depleted fire extinguishers may be one of the most powerful images.
  • Neil Armstrong's self portrait reflection in Buzz Aldrin's visor must be one of the most recognizable.
  • Bruce McCandless and the Manned Maneuvering Unit solo on orbit is another.
  • Challenger just after the main tank ruptures, with the two solid rockets moving away must be another powerful image for your list.
  • Blue Marble.
  • Earthrise.
My favorite: Apollo 14 image of the rickshaw taken from inside the lunar module after final EVA close-out, with the lunar surface camera film magazine left on the rickshaw. I often wonder who first noticed that detail and what was said.

The photo of Robert Goddard in the depths of winter beside the launching frame of the first liquid fuelled rocket... it doesn't get much more iconic.
