The Space Between Us, from STX Entertainment, opens in theaters on Aug. 19 Dec. 16, 2016 in U.S. theaters:

In this interplanetary adventure, a space shuttle embarks on the first mission to colonize Mars, only to discover after takeoff that one of the astronauts is pregnant. Shortly after landing, she dies from complications while giving birth to the first human born on the red planet – never revealing who the father is. Thus begins the extraordinary life of Gardner Elliot – an inquisitive, highly intelligent boy who reaches the age of 16 having only met 14 people in his very unconventional upbringing.

While searching for clues about his father, and the home planet he's never known, Gardner begins an online friendship with a street smart girl in Colorado named Tulsa. When he finally gets a chance to go to Earth, he's eager to experience all of the wonders he could only read about on Mars – from the most simple to the extraordinary. But once his explorations begin, scientists discover that Gardner's organs can't withstand Earth's atmosphere.

Eager to find his father, Gardner escapes the team of scientists and joins with Tulsa on a race against time to unravel the mysteries of how he came to be, and where he belongs in the universe.

The movie had NASA's approval to use its logo and set scenes at the Kennedy Space Center. The trailer also shows Spaceport America in New Mexico, NASA's Space Launch System (prior to shedding its Saturn V-paint job), a spacecraft that looks very much like SpaceX's Crew Dragon and the crewed version of Dream Chaser, which Sierra Nevada Corp. highlighted today on Twitter:
We can't wait to watch @SpaceBetweenUs! Check out the trailer with guest appearance by #SNCDreamChaser at 2:56!

WOW! Gary Oldman is my favorite living actor.

I want to see this film now, I do not want to wait! Graphics look a bit too CGI but I love the story line. Asa Butterfield has been quoted as saying "People think when you are in zero gravity, it is like moving in jelly. But it isn't. You're completely free to move however fast as you want."

For those who waited to see this film, you are going to have to wait even longer.

The release date has moved from next week to Dec. 16 in the U.S. and Canada, Feb. 17 for international fans.

Just saw the film, do not know if this theatrical version is different than the one shown the night of seventh game of the World Series. No spoilers.

The person I saw it with guessed the secret in the film early, but even though I saw the trailers, I did not even guess it correctly, even up to moments before it was announced. As I summarized to the interviewer after the showing: whether you live on Mars or on Earth, it is about the same, only the environment is different, even with matters of the heart.

It appeared to me the studio tried to make it more in line with Nicholas Sparks films, perhaps due to unflattering reviews six months ago, though this sci-fi screenplay was written by Allen Loeb.

The Dream Chaser was more predominantly shown than in the trailer, and the actual space views from above the Earth and Mars are nice. I was expecting more Martian surface views. Still worth viewing, even if you don't like chick flicks.

Sierra Nevada Corporation release
Sierra Nevada Corporation's Dream Chaser Featured in Movie 'The Space Between Us'

Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) is excited to have its Dream Chaser space vehicle featured in another major motion picture, "The Space Between Us." The Dream Chaser was also in the extended version of "The Martian," last year's Oscar-winning film with Matt Damon.

"The Dream Chaser stirs imagination in many ways, and it's a fun adventure for SNC to share the vehicle in this format," said Mark Sirangelo, corporate vice president of SNC's Space Systems business area.

"The Space Between Us" chronicles the futuristic story about the first human born on Mars, Gardner Elliot (Asa Butterfield). Sixteen-year-old Elliot flies to Earth and goes on a quest to find himself, his father and discover what life is like on the third planet from the sun. The film is also a love story, as Elliot connects with a Colorado girl named Tulsa (Britt Robertson), who helps him on his Earth journey.

SNC's space plane plays a key role in the film, shuttling the main character to low-Earth orbit (LEO).

"The movie shows a futuristic version of the Dream Chaser. We hope viewers enjoy the role it has in the film and that it inspires them on what the spacecraft can do in real life," Sirangelo added.

Given the tie of Tulsa's character to the Centennial State, portions of the film were set and taped in the Rocky Mountains. The full-scale Dream Chaser model used in the movie is currently on display at the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum in Denver, Colorado.

The movie, produced by STX Entertainment, is out in theaters today.

In real life, SNC's Dream Chaser spacecraft is a reusable, multi-mission space utility vehicle (SUV). It is capable of transportation services to and from LEO, where the International Space Station (ISS) resides, and is the only commercial, lifting-body vehicle capable of a runway landing. The Dream Chaser Cargo System was selected by NASA to provide cargo delivery and disposal services to the ISS under the Commercial Resupply Services 2 (CRS2) contract.

This is the spacecraft's second movie role after it was in the director's version of "The Martian," in the deleted scenes section of the DVD. Matt Damon's character Mark Watney can be seen peering out a window at the Dream Chaser as he prepares to return home.

My wife wants to see it.

Rotten Tomatoes was very unkind, with a less than 20% rating. The critics really roasted it, too. That said, I have never used critical reviews to govern what I see as I often disagree with them.
