Thanks for sharing the skit. My comment, in the very general of terms, goes back to my experience starting the with the sequester when our organization decided to deem over 60% of the management "essential." I know NASA and the government at large wouldn't deem ISS support or other "vital" support as non-essential. |

Mark Kelly just appeared on CNN's Piers Morgan show and mentioned that not only was his brother Scott furloughed, but just filed for unemployment benefits as well. Hopefully the rumored deal will put an end to this tomorrow sometime. |

Loved the SNL skit, wife and I both laughed. Actually had a friend ask me about that same scenario (mission control not manned during shutdown) a few days ago, might tell him to watch this. Hopefully it will not come to this, but my wife asked me what would happen to NASA if the government did not reach a compromise by the time the debt ceiling was reached. Any thoughts? |

Senate leaders have just announced they have reached an agreement to end the government shutdown and avert default on the national debt. The House may act on the agreed upon deal first to expedite the legislative process. Now somewhat moot but worth noting, Congressman Mo Brooks (AL-05) on Tuesday (Oct. 15) introduced a bill to fund NASA for Fiscal Year 2014, to return the space agency's employees to work regardless the status of the shutdown. |

President Barack Obama on Wednesday evening (Oct. 16) signed into law a bill to re-open the federal government and temporarily suspend the debt ceiling. The bill will fund the federal government through Jan. 15 and extend the government’s borrowing power through Feb. 7. It also calls for a congressional agreement by mid-December on a long-term budget plan. As evidence of the government immediately returning furloughed employees to work, I received an automated call from NASA at 11:35 p.m. CDT instructing that I check with my department for direction on reporting to work. (Of course, I don't work for NASA — but Johnson Space Center's permanent press badge treats media as a class of employee.) |

The Smithsonian has announced that the National Air and Space Museum, along with its other museums, will reopen to visitors on Thursday (Oct. 17). |

We had to cancel some astronaut visits this week. It was the first time we ever had an issue. We would of been okay if the government was up and running on Tuesday. |

Glad to see that the Government thinks you're back in gainful employment Robert. We were just about to organise a whip round for you. |
