How come nobody mentioned this!?!? NASA and Astronaut Michael J. Massimino Invite Iron Maiden To Tour the Space Center in Houston; Texas Sees Debut of Iron Maiden's "The Final Frontier World Tour" and New Alien Eddie!!Invited for a VIP visit to the world famous NASA Space Center, Astronaut Michael J. Massimino gave four members of Iron Maiden a comprehensive tour commenting, "Having a visit from Iron Maiden was great fun. It was a pleasure to meet them and they are big fans of the space program. It was an honor for NASA to host them and a big morale boost for the entire NASA team to have Iron Maiden at the Space Center." Says vocalist Bruce Dickinson, "We appear to have a lot of fans at NASA, and it was a real pleasure to meet some of them, especially, of course, a bona fide astronaut who has made a number of space walks. Hearing first hand of Michael's experiences was fascinating. He took us round the Space Station and Shuttle and up close to the incredible Saturn V rocket. Fans working in the Mission Control room had even put up pictures of the band on the huge screens where you would normally see the rockets taking off! The highlight was unquestionably the Apollo Room, from where the moon landings were coordinated, this was to step back into history. Looking at the relative simplicity of the equipment compared to today, it is amazing how they managed to pull it off. Each of us even got to take off, fly and land the Space Shuttle on the simulator, a real thrill. We felt very privileged and hope that Michael and our NASA fans enjoyed our Houston show as much as we enjoyed our visit with them." Iron Maiden opened their hugely anticipated "Final Frontier Tour" of North America with shows in Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, playing to over 36,000 Texan fans. They gave the band a rapturous reception at their first show in Dallas in seven years at the Superpages Amphitheater... |

So will NASA now play "Bring Your Daughter (To The Slaughter)" as a wake-up call? |

Where you will "tame a land" or "die with your boots on?" Apparently we prefer the "old" Iron Maiden! |

Nawww, actually the wakeup call should be "Aces High". It could happen. Why should Metallica be the only metal band (to my knowledge) to have a wakeup call? |

Mike's a metal man?I think the last wake-up music played for him was Billy Joel's 'New York State of Mind' But then again I like Iron Maiden and Billy Joel... |

My further research on the subject shows that on STS-123 'Enter Sandman' by Metallica was played for Mike Behnken. However one has to question a piece played for Garrett Reisman 'Saturday Night' by the Bay City Rollers! |

Not on this leg of the tour, there's no point using Ed Force One for North America as it's all very truck-able. |

One of my favorite groups. I can see "Aces High" as a wake up call. Same for KISS's "Heaven's On Fire." |

If you happen to be a Maiden fanclub member, you can now read more in Rod's Diary. If you're not, you'll have to wait a couple of weeks, we give our FC first dibs on the cool stuff. I'll post here when we switch it over to public access, since there seem to be a few Maiden fans. |

If one is going to do a KISS song for a wakeup call, it has to be Ace Frehley's "Rocket Ride". |

I ran into band member Nicko McBrain today as he was finishing a tour of the Space Station Processing Facility at KSC. A really nice, friendly guy, and a pleasure to meet. |

Nicko and the rest of the band are all top blokes and amazing musicians.... Not primadonnas like you're average talentless popstar. |

As Francis found out firsthand, and as mentioned by Space.com, Nicko McBrain was an invited guest for the launch of space shuttle Discovery before a hydrogen leak led to the current delay.Whether or not McBrain will be there when Discovery finally launches is unknown but at the very least, he was able to pose for this cool photo with the shuttle and astronaut Mike Foale... |
