I have been posting and watching this forum for several years and enjoy it very much. One thing I have never been able to determine, or have any knowledge of, is this:
Who is Robert Pearlman?
Is he an ex-astronaut? Someone who worked for NASA? A writer? A person with lots of time on his hands?
I do know that he is very well informed in the ways of space and seems to have access to some incredible information about the smallest of details.
Does anyone really know?

Oh, I'm sure someone knows, but then they know better than to come forward...
Or better yet, if you are coming to the Astronaut Autograph and Memorabilia Show at Kennedy Space Center this weekend, stop by the collectSPACE table and meet me in person!
If not, as they say a picture is worth a thousand words, I'll leave you with this video that Space Camp created for their Hall of Fame ceremony earlier this year:

I was always of the impression he is not of this world and probably hails from the planet Xenu.

Richard -
Robert is the center of this little universe we call cS. As you have accurately pointed out he has or has access to an incredible amount of information. By creating collectSPACE he has also allowed fellow enthusiasts to share their information and collections.
He's not an ex-astronaut but in my estimation probably a future one.
Where he's from - I've heard it's an alien world called New Jersey. I'm not sure but I'm glad he decided to settle on this planet.

Great answer Robert! And I do so like the video. It answered at least 900 of my 1000 questions.
I have had that particular question bugging me for a long time and figured eventually I would come across something. However, after three years of no success I figured it was time to ask.
You are quite the accomplished person. Thank you for this forum and all of the other things you do behind the scenes to answer the tough questions and to bring us information that would otherwise escape us.

Who is Robert Pearlman? One of the nicest people I've never met but have known for what seems a thousand years.

What a great introduction for our fearless leader. Robert, the interview of you as a child was touching and prophetic. Those of us who work with kids see that same kind of zeal and hope, and an enthusiasm for the promise of space exploration. And they, like you, will lead us into a brighter future. I am optimistic when I see the face of young "astronauts".

Cool video Robert!
Out of curiosity, who taped the video portions of you as a child? Sadly, I have zero video of me growing up, so it must be pretty special to own footage of yourself at Space Camp from so long ago.
Best, Jay PS- New Jersey rules!

Thanks all for the very kind comments (especially Scott and Jon, those were really, um, special).
One of the options when signing up for Space Camp was to be placed on a video team, which would have a film crew follow the group through the major activities and then splice the footage of you and your campmates into a highlight reel. The interview and my "EVA" footage came from that tape.
(When Space Camp asked for the footage, I hadn't seen it, well, since it was shot. Recorded on VHS tape and no longer with a VCR, I couldn't preview what I was sending them, so when the above video played on their IMAX screen during the ceremony, it was as much a surprise to me as everyone else -- I had completely forgotten about those scenes.)

Who is Robert Pearlman?
I am proud to say he is just one of us. Luckier than some, not as lucky as others. When we first faced one another in Houston, I recognized him for what he is - one of the brotherhood of us space explorers, who is bound to this planet - yearning to fly free. I am proud to call him friend, and I have trust in what he writes, and feel lucky that where he goes, he takes us along.
Thanks, Robert!

I am proud to say I have also met Robert. Where you ask? Where else? In the lobby of NASM.

I am sure that underneath his shirt he wears tights with a huge "S" emblazoned on the front.

To answer the question: He is the man who never sleeps. All for the sake to keep us well informed. He is also the man who moved to Houston area but you can mostly see him at the Cape performing as reporter his other profession and once again to keep all of us informed about the space business. He is the man who makes it possible that we meet Astronauts because of the sightings calendar. I met many Astronauts because of this list.

He's someone who knows quite a few special people.
He's someone who is doing a thousand things at once it seems in a thousand places.
But most of all, he's someone who isn't too busy to answer personal notes from someone like me.

He's the guy who just sits back in the shadows, none of us even knowing he's here, and waits for one of us to post a link that's too long, or a picture that's too big. He then swoops in and reduces it to a workable size, and then disappears back into the shadows!
Thank you Robert Steve

He's a guy that turned his hobby into a real job and can work at it all the time and never burn out!
Created this web page that I found years ago, and check daily for goodies.
First found out about the Autograph Convention at KSC 2 years ago that also included the STS-117 launch and dinner with an astronaut under the Saturn V. Best. Weekend. EVER!
Through cS I have increased my collection of space goodies.
Met a few really cool people on here that "get it"
Thank you sir!

Robert is the guy who brought a bunch of individuals together all over the world to form one community! (now if we could just do that with the UN)

I met the Man during the 2003 Washington convention (or whatever name it was), cool, friendly, nice guy.
Because of him, cS and all the friends there and online, I was finally able to make my 'coming out' when back to Switzerland, not afraid anymore to say to family and friends: "YES, I'm a space fan, memorabilia collector, and I'm PROUD of it!"

I'm just glad Robert does what he does. People sometimes ask "where do you find out where astronauts are appearing or signing autographs??" etc. I can always say "collectspace.com"

I don't know him personally, but I think he is a great one and shares his knowledge to all other space enthusiast for free. He is kind an not a person, who wants to stay in the centre. Would be fine to meet him one day, but I believe that will not happen.

I once told Robert that he reminded me of the question as to the secret of life from the movie City Slickers; find something you like to do and do it well. That spells Robert!
And oh yea, he's a real quality, trustworthy guy!

I've met Robert a few times since we first met one another at STS-121 in June/July 2006. The guy has a real drive in him as he usually could be seen working tirelessly on his website. But, he wasn't above looking up, cracking a friendly smile and saying hello. As such, while I know he has an ego, he doesn't show it and lets the quality of the work speak for itself. He also doesn't tend to thrust himself into the limelight either unless it is to bring up a valid point about something. I think this is one reason why it can be so tough to uncover information about him.
That video footage was interesting as we got to see Robert in his younger days. The pink shirt during graduation was... well... does he still own that shirt I wonder?

I met Robert at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center back in the summer of 2005. Since he is the creator of CollectSPACE, he is indirectly responsible for all the crusades I have been on in my attempts to meet astronauts, visit space places, and continue to harvest my collection.
I agree, that's a cool video too. He has one of the best jobs ever.

Who (what?) is Robert Pearlman? Robert is "the glue" to all things cS; a wonderful community where we all have the opportunity to belong.
