While at the Kennedy Space Center this week, a representative of the Canadian Space Agency gave me an interesting "packet" for my collection. On the packet was printed "The Maple Leaf on Mars!" alongside CSA/ASC's official logo. Inside the transparent packet are 15 pure maple drop candies, each about 3/4" in diameter, made in Canada. The candy souvenirs are in commemoration of Canada's first-ever science instrument in space exploration history to touchdown on the surface of an alien world--Mars--in May 2008 if all goes well with the current Phoenix Mars mission. Canadian scientists will conduct the first study of the polar climate of another planet. They hope to not only determine what the Martian climate is today but also how it may develop over time. To my knowledge, this is a collector-first, pertaining to an edible commercial and/or public relations space-related product for a non-human space project and/or mission.
