Commedian Dennis Miller was on Jay Leno's Tonight Show last Friday night. He noted he had been at a function at Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum the previous evening. He noted it was fabulous and everyone should go.He then deadpanned "If its an Air and Space Museum, shouldn't it be empty though?" |

Miller attributed his comment about the NASM to Stephen Right. He also made other comments about the space program which I mentioned Friday at this location: http://collectspace.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/003060.html |

Apparently, from his past statements, Miller would truly prefer the NASM to be empty. There's a close relationship between comedy and calamity and, I believe, Miller's brand of humor, thoughts and comments are more along the lines of the latter. Best, Bruce |

In the scheme of things, Dennis Miller's thoughts and desires don't amount to that proverbial hole in the snow. |

He had a similar statement in his "so-called" comedy special on HBO. Well, he did his best to kill Monday Night Football, and did a pretty good job of it, now he's taking a shot at the Space Program. I wonder how they're going to broadcast his next show when there's no satellites to pick up the signal. He'd been unfunny for years. |

Dennis Miller was always one of my favorite comedians since his days on Saturday Night Live. His series on HBO lasted for many years and it was always filled with very sharp and intellectual political satire. Some of it was admittedly way over my head. Then, he moved to another cable network (C-NBC I think) and he instantly became extremely outspoken in his political views and he became very intolerant of other opposing views. That is where we parted. I do not mind hearing opinions of others (it sometimes served to enlighten me). But I did not like his heavy-handed approach to politically oriented comedy which often involved turning a discussion of political matters into an attack on anyone who opposed his views. This was not funny. Miller had become a tool of the Administration and had stopped being funny. Dennis Miller often expressed his support for many programs of the current Administration in Washington. I was therefore very surprised that he expressed the view that, in effect, the space program (Space Shuttle and mission to Pluto) cost the taxpayers a great deal of money which should be used to protect the US from the hoard or Mexicans coming across the border. At this point he was in opposition to the Administration. I have all of Dennis Miller's "Rants" which he published in three volumes. I hope that he some day returns to the old Dennis Miller who often caused me to laugh at his satirical remarks. |

Not as fresh as he used to be, but anyone who can drop an U Thant reference into a comedy act is okay in my book.

I think a lot of people think that just because they are funny and very rich, they can be smart about other topics, but I guess that is not always the case! Fame and Power does not make you Smart.- Zee |

I think while most ignore the elephant in the room, Dennis dances rather well with it. |

Say what you want about Dennis Miller's comedic abilities. One thing is for sure, he is very intelligent and knowledgable about many matters. You could tell this from his "Rants" on his HBO series. They often covered many subjects in the news and on the minds of his viewers and they showed that he has a grasp of the subject.
His move to C-NBC was obviously arranged by a partisan of President Bush. The show lasted all through the campaign and ended after the election. Just before the first show of the series aired, Miller "outed" himself of the Larry King Show saying that he was a supporter of the President. His new format show was funny very infrequently. His panel often included staunch supporters of the Bush Administration. Even the Governor of Califirnia was on the short-lived series twice. That is why his attack on the President's "vision" for the future of the space program is a surprise. Perhaps Miller is trying to tell his fans that he is back from the "dark side" of American politics.

Dennis Miller is like the comic equivalent of the New York Yankees... you either love him, or hate him..but he always elicits a response. |
