Wow!! Just returned from my trip to Florida to help my mother put in 900 sq. feet of laminate flooring. While there, I had arranged a private signing with Edgar Mitchell(to sign a number of my "First Caddy on the Moon" prints). Ed is a class act. I enjoyed his company and look forward in getting to know him better. Later in the week I made my first trip to the Kennedy Space Center. We got the VIP tour and saw the final components of the Space Station. Apparently, this part of the tour has been off limits since 9/11 and just opened again last week. It was amazing standing 500 feet from the Atlantic looking at Pad 39 a(or b) from less than a half to a full mile. Jerry Carr was the visiting astronaut at the visitor center. I met Jeff Lucas who was our tour guide. The astronaut Hall of Fame was fantastic and hats off to Ken Harvekotte(sp?) with his display of memorabilia there. I will post some photos soon. |

Glad you enjoyed it.If you are referring to the 'Up Close Tour' no, it did not just reopen for going to the SSPF. Though it did close after 9/11 they reopened it about two years later as part of their new Up Close tour which has more security precautions. |

An interesting note about Ed Mitchell's space suit checklist which is at the Hall of fame. I believe step #6 says to kick a rock(or boulder) into Cone Crater. |

No mention of the Saturn V museum? I was drooling all over myself when I stepped through those doors and found myself under the 5 F-1 engines! Did you get a chance to go on the Cape Canaveral tour? That is a facinating one too - even if they only give you 1/2 hour in the Air Force musuem (my only complaint about that tour). Tom

Tom, Your absolutely right. What am I thinking. Years ago, I saw the Saturn V at Johnson Space Center. Very impressive. The Saturn V at Kennedy was breathtaking. For those who haven't been, before you enter into that part of the tour, you go into a room that looks like mission control. They perform a 3 minute countdown with all the consoles lit up and 3 huge monitors with video. When the Saturn lifts off, the windows behind you,(just like the ones in launch control) shake rather forcefully. It almost sounds like you are in a hailstorm with the hail being about the size of golfballs. |
