Anyone read this terrific comic book? http://www.grovel.org.uk/reviews/ministry-space-01/ministry-space-01.htm An alternate history, set where the British decide they need to succeed in space to maintain the Empire in the waning days of World War II. A plausable (enough) story, with some terrific art. Worth a look.

Ah, yeah, glad to see someone else has read it. I posted about it when the last part came out, to deafening silence. It really is an interesting look at an alternate history. If you liked Ministry of Space, you may also want to check out Ellis' Orbiter graphic novel. He also has another space-related series coming out right now, Ocean, set on Europa, though it departs a bit more from the "realism" of MoS and Orbiter.------------------ http://allthese worlds.hatbag.net/space.php "America's challenge of today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow." - Commander Eugene Cernan, Apollo 17 Mission, 11 December 1972 |

Yeah, but Brit astronauts would never - NEVER - have been as cool as Pete Conrad. |

I think you would be surpised just how cool a British Astro could have been in the Sixties. How about this scene that really happened. Fast jet pilot at air show toots horn to be let through crowd to the flight line. Pulls up alongside Lightning fighter. Steps out of his Austin Healey sports car (wearing appropriate shades!), chats to crew chief for a couple of minutes, gets in aircraft. Taxis out to runway and 60 seconds later is at 25000ft. Does alot of noise and speed for 5 minutes, lands , steps into car , drives back to beer tent, carries on previous conversation.....one elbow on bar. This is the sort of guy who would have been flying spacecraft had Britain had the money and will to do it. Pretty cool i think. Phil |

Wally Schirra did this, right down to the Austin-Healey. |

Wally did that to?...and in a Healy!! I did actually see a USAF pilot do it as well, but the car was 78 anniversary Corvette and the aircraft was a F15. Cool is Cool where ever and when ever, i guess. But you`re right about Pete Conrad. Even the name ......CONRAD, just says hot pilot! Phil |
