I was browsing through iTunes' gallery of recent music videos and came across one from the German rock band Rammstein for their single, "Amerika". Lyrics aside (which are mostly in German, and seem to be commenting on Western culture spreading worldwide), the band is dressed in a mix of Apollo A7L and Shuttle EMU spacesuits while performing on the Moon. More than just the costumes, the props and musical instruments used in the video have been customized to "fit the scene" and there was obviously someone with knowledge/passion of Apollo on the set, as they recreate Charlie Duke's family picture on the lunar surface, cross hairs appear in some of the shots and other small details such as how the U.S. flag assembled are included. All of this makes for some fun visuals, especially when they divert from the historical script and ad-lib some scenes that I am sure we all would have enjoyed seeing beamed back from the Moon (in particular the last shot shown here in frame grabs from the video). |

Several other music acts have done this, even within the last five years: Latest new release from the new Duran Duran release, "Astronaut." In 2002 the 5 member brit rock group "A" did a "Metal Hammer" Issue 103 UK mag cover and great astronaut/space station/shuttle layout, pp36-43.

The spacesuit of the singer looks very detailed.Serveral years ago the Scandinavian band AHA (maybe you know them from their 80's hit Take on me) did an video which was also on the moon and had also very detailed A7L spacesuits the song I believe was called "Minor Earth Major Sky." |

If rock bands can do it, the government can do it too. |

Rush "one of the greatest bands ever IMHO" did a song called "Countdown" on their album "Signals" (1982) about the shuttle launch, they even have a footnote about their visit to NASA in the album liner. |
