Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between the set with the silver slipcase and the set without. The set without says it has both a pan and scan version and widescreen version. I can't find anything on the set with the silver slipcase that says it has a widescreen version. I'd like the silver slipcase but would also like to have a widescreen version if it exists. Does anyone know if the non-silver slipcase set actually has a widescreen version, and if so does the silver set have it too? |

Assuming that you are talking about the Tom Hanks produced series that was on HBO, my silver slipcase version is pan and scan.I didn't know there was a widescreen version. Damn. Looks like I'm buying it again. |

I am talking about the Tom Hanks/HBO production. The collector's edition available on some site says: Features: DVD, Dual Layer, Collector's Edition, Pan and Scan (TV Format), Widescreen, Trailers, Behind the Scenes Footage, DVD ROM Compatible, 4 Discs. So I don't know for sure if it includes Widescreen because on some sites it doesn't say Widescreen.

I have the silver version, but I don't remember any "behind the scenes" footage. However, it has been a while since I've looked at it so I could be wrong. Looks like I should have waited for the collector's edition. |

I have the silver "Collector's Edition" also. The first three disks have four episodes each in full screen. The fourth has special features listed as "HBO First Look" (making of featurette) Special Effects featurette, a Virtual Tour of the Solar system, 3D Models of the ships, Mission objectives, Kennedy's speech, Timelines of the missions, History of the Moon. There are also DVD ROM features called the Rom Side of the Moon which I've never been able to make work on my computer. Anybody know more about this? Mine is full screen and I've never seen any other version advertised. Love this DVD by the way. No collection is complete without it. John |

Here is a site that offers a "collector's edition" that says it has a widescreen version: http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=40101567&loc=107&sp=1

I question whether or not there is such a thing as a "widescreen" version of this show simply because it was made for television, not the big screen. I doubt that is was shot in widescreen format to begin with as the entire point of widescreen is to format the film to the standard movie theater screen. I have the silver sleeved version and to be honest I never really considered that a "widescreen" format existed since I am watching it in the same format that I watched it when it premiered on HBO. Just my two cents... Dana www.GerathsDesign.com ------------------ Visit my Studios Website at http://www.GerathsDesign.com |

Actually even on the pan and scan the opening credits show scenes in widescreen so the film may have been shot in the widesreen format. |

The series was actually shot on film then transferred to video for broadcasting. It's quite possible, or likely even, that whilst filming the series they framed the shots for widescreen then panned-and-scanned it to produce the broadcast version. If this is the case then a widescreen version would be easy to produce and true to the original. Even better - a true high-definition version could be created in the future working from the original film stock. |

So, would anyone like to trade the newer version for an obviously rare and collectible "silver edition"? |

Don't everyone worry yet; we still haven't confirmed that a widescreen edition exists. It looks like a widescreen version is being marketed, but no one has yet to see it and if it is only 3 discs (not including the DVD_ROM) like the pan and scan, I'm not sure how they could have fit both the pan and scan and the widescreen versions on 3 discs (unless they are double-sided). |

See Spaced out's post above about the filming in widescreen format. |
