Supposedly, Norm Thagard made a speech/comment after the Columbia accident which included the words "pushing back the final frontier." Anybody know a source for this? |

I sort of remember him saying that in a speech he gave at KSC to the employees...I think it was soon after the accident, and almost looked like it was out on a runway? I've seen it on various TV specials about the Columbia accident, if I've got the right speech, but I'm not sure if it's printed anywhere online. -CAdded later: Thinking on it a bit longer, I think the speech I'm thinking of wasn't given by Thagard, but another astronaut, but I can't remember which one! I'm thinking of the one where the astronaut said something to the effect of "I'm sure Columbia did her best to try and bring her crew home". Carrie, that was Robert Crippen who spoke so fondly of Columbia. The ceremony was held on the runway where he also said something I won't forget for a long time. It went something like this, "Hail Rick...Willie...Michael...KC...Dave...Laurel...and Ilan. Hail Columbia." Rob |

That's who it was, thanks! "Pushing back the final frontier" still sounds so familiar, but I can't remember if I've seen or heard Thagard's speech. -C |
