Don't forget me (Kathy). Like I said in one of my postings yesterday, my cubicle is full of photos male astronauts and cosmonauts. (Not only do I have photos of them, I have met them in person also! My boyfriend works for another NASA contractor with no access to my building and doesn't know about all my beefcake space suit pics. He thinks I just have Mir, ISS and shuttle posters up on my walls...) |

I am, and proud to be a space-loving gal! I only wish there were more women interested in space; I've often wondered why more are not, especially now that there are quite a few female space travelers and scientists. I'd love to meet a female astronaut or cosmonaut sometime! |

Add me to the list. And I have my office decorated, too. One wall is strictly John Young memorabilia. Another wall is Thunderbirds/Blue Angels and military aviation related. |

Add me to the list of female forum-readers. Have been collecting since I was a sweet young thing...since my days working in the Astronaut Office at NASA JSC during Gemini, Apollo, and Skylab. |

I just joined the collectSPACE community and noticed (not much of a surprise) that the postings are from mostly men. When I "drag" my husband to space events I am one of the only women in a room full of men. I know there are other women out there like me, just wanted to say "hello." — Lisa ------------------ spaceychick.com |

Lisa, yep I am a woman too. My husband usually likes going to space events and museums so I am lucky in that regard. We also have two daughters — now both in their teens and we have dragged them to many space museums so that they actually tolerate Mom's passion and know that they have a leg up on school projects that involve space stuff! As far as mostly men on this forum — I have no problem as I also love all sports too and usually that is a male dominated topic too. I guess that's what happens when you grow up with two older brothers! — Marcy |

Another one to add to this list.I have been a member for a few years now. Really pleased. Have met so many members, via e-mail or at the various shows etc. My hubby Ted is now converted to space and together we have met so many Astronauts - to which we say — thank you — plus my house has autographed photos — in it — ranging from the Mercury to shuttle era. Robert - its thanks to you - and this forum that we all enjoy our hobby. May we all continue to do so. — Brenda |

Count me in. I was lucky enough to be raised in Lancaster-with my dad working out at Edwards AFB during it's heyday. It couldn't get any better than that.... Joni. (Thanks Robert for all you do, you're awesome.) |

Another one checking in. Spaceflight's been a lifelong fascination of mine, and I'm lucky enough to share my life with a guy who's fascinated with spaceflight too. — jodie |

Nice to hear from my fellow "spacey chicks." My husband has been very patient with my obsession, and is beginning to develop a bit of a passion for the subject, too. I also am the only girl in my family (two younger brothers and almost all male cousins). It's great being able to share my passion with others in these message boards. |

It would be interesting to know how many members there are in total and the percentage split male/female? |

As we allow pseudonyms and don't poll for gender, there would be no way to tell the breakdown between male and female members. |

There may be no way to know for sure; but in this hobby an estimation of less than 85% male would be hard to fathom. Long live collectSPACE and thank you sir Robert! |

Yup add me to the list, I was lucky enough to grow up on Long Island near Grumman in the 60's. I love airplanes and especially spaceflight. My boys went to space camp and now my grandkids really love it too. It has become a family thing for all of us. My office is decorated with autographs and photos as is almost every room in my house. Glad to be part of a growing female group. Torie |

There really isn't ANY reason that enthusiasm for space flight or space collecting should be gender specific! In my two stays at Adult Space Camp in Alabama and several autograph/lecture events in DC and Florida, I've met many great woman space fans. Great collectors and great knowledgeable people. We all have that secret wish whether or not its possible, to someday go into space ourselves. There are probably more women out there and do everything I can think of to encourage everyone to rejoice in the experience. Welcome all! |

I totally agree! But some hobbies, sports etc do sometimes lend themselves more to one group or another sometimes? |

I'm female as well!I never really thought of an interest in space exploration being gender specific. I honestly still don't. There's a pretty even breakdown at my University as well! |
