Several years ago I saw a comic book version of the Apollo-12 mission and thought the artwork was a bit disappointing. I thought: I can do that better. So I started on an Apollo-11 comic, but after nine pages I had enough of it and put it aside. For those that are interested, I have posted these nine page here: http://home.tiscali.nl/~ehengeve/temp/ Little joke: the "technician" in the rear on page 5 (bottom left) is me. I should add that everything is hand-painted! PhotoShop didn't even exist in these days. Ed Hengeveld [This message has been edited by heng44 (edited January 31, 2004).] |

Ed,That's great work! The launch and arrival in orbit panels are just stunning. Also your changes in the narrative point-of-view during launch are exceptionally well chosen, they give the events dramatic context without breaking up the flow of the story. You've got five years to finish it and find a publisher in time for the 40th anniversary! Cheers, Matt |

This is truly marvelous stuff, Ed--clearly a labor of love. When it's done, I want an author-signed copy! I was going to advise you to quit your day job, but since I work for the Idaho Dept. of Labor, that would be tantamount to heresy. I truly do hope you finish the work, though.------------------ Don |

Ed, what can said that hasn't been already -- absolutely amazing! You really need to complete this and get it published, if only to send a copy each to Neil, Buzz, and Mike. You've captured their likenesses superbly. |

Ed, I just got off looking at your excellent work, and "honest to God" had goosebumps.I especially liked the frame of the Saturn lifting off with the Seagull lazily circling in the sky. A beautiful picture. Its amazing to me how nature and technology have always been at harmony at the Cape. Is it possible for someone like me to acquire one of your pices of Space Art. Let me know off line. Congratulations, and thanks for sharing your talent. |

Ed, I'll echo everyone's comments and encouragements, and thank you for sharing your work.I do not draw or anything, so I'm curious: about how many hours of labor has been spent on what is being presented here? My favorite frame is the very first one: the Saturn-V poised for take-off. The lighting on the tower structure is very nice. I too would like to get some of your art if you feel OK with this... For starters, a nice print of the aforementionned frame would make me very happy. Thanks to everybody for the words of praise and I must say I am tempted to continue working on the story. Finding the time will be the big problem, however.I do have the idea that I would like to paint one or several pages later in the story, where the action takes place on the lunar surface. Perhaps that will convince me that I should finish it (for the 40th anniversary?) And yes, I am open to suggestions about doing custom work, if anyone is interested. Ed Hengeveld |

Ed! Incredible! I'm one of those starving artists you've heard tell about and I just want to say that you have a fantastic sense of perspective and layout! As mentioned in earlier posts above, the likeness of the astronauts are very exceptional and far better than one is used to seeing in comics. Remember the old Star Trek comics after the first movie came out? Sometimes it was hard to tell if you were looking at Kirk or Chekov! How much time would it take you to finish? How much time have you put into it? You might just owe it to yourself to complete this project! Once you do finish, any comic book company would be quite foolish not to publish your work! Rob

Noah,In my version the Eagle lands near the Russian Luna-15, which put two female cosmonauts on the moon :-) Seriously, I have a lot of work these days making space paintings for all sorts of people, so no time for the comic anymore. Wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more. Best regards, Ed |
