I do enjoy looking at collector's websites. It's great to see your collections and the enthusiasm you have for space. I was wondering why some of you have websites, and why many of you do not?Noah |

Why do I not have a website ? Hmmmmm...First, I do not know how to construct a website.Second, I cannot afford one and third....my collection is small and loaded withm fakes and autopens. That about sums it up !! On top of that,my knowlege of autographs pales in comparison to most members of this site. Donald "I'm No Expert" Brady |

Like Donald, I too lack the expertise to construct a site. And having spoken to a friend currently producing his own site I also lack the vast amount of time and I suspect patience needed also......Regards, Rick. |

Same offer goes from me to you Rick, if you can scan your pics I'd happily make up a few pages and host them on my site for you.Adam P.S. There isn't any real skill in making a simple site, if you can make a page in MS Word with pics then you can make a website ! |

Hi Eddie,You do not have to pay for hosting, there are many free providers around, although adverts will almost certainly appear on your pages. Do you have any webdesign software or would you code the site by hand? I have pretty much all the top webdesign software there is, so if you need any recommendations or help let me know. Alternatively, I am quite happy to make a gallery page for you (or anyone else who might want one). Craig |

Hey Guys ... ever heard of MicroSoft FRONTPAGE software which helps You create a website ( It's merely a drag & drop software ) ... O.K. I know there're some LINUX computer engineers on this website but this MicroSoft software is in my opinion a good tool for beginners ... No need to start studying HTML etc ... |

Hi Philip, Frontpage is the program I use. I know some people hate MS but I know where to find menu's with MS software so its easy to use. Near enough the same as Word but with hyperlinks added ! Don't know if they still make it but there used to be a cut down version of Frontpage that was cheaper than the full program, can't remember its name now though ! Anyway I paid £200 for my hosting which was overkill as I have loads of spare space (about 400mb)and needless bandwidth (unless I do something stupid like putting PDF files on there again! ). When this runs out I will go for something like 50mb of space and smaller bandwidth and have more to spend on my collection ! Adam |

While WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editors such as a FrontPage are enticing to use due to the simplicity of getting started, I would greatly encourage everyone considering creating their own website to learn the basics of HTML. Its not difficult, there are only a handful of terms to learn, and it will afford you a degree of control over the design of your pages that is above and beyond anything a WYSIWYG editor can provide. There are quite a few good books on the subject available in almost any bookstore, but you already have a reference within reach -- your browser's "View Source" feature. Just find your favorite website (i.e. collectSPACE), find a feature on that page you would like to learn how to do on your own site, and then choose View Source to see how it is done. This is exactly how I learned how to code and design websites and I still hand write all my pages. |

I used to have a website, but over the last year I have moved, changed jobs, and my wife had a baby so I don't really have the time to maintain one anymore. I found creating the site easy; it was maintaining it that was time comsuming and hard.------------------ Brian Peter astronautbrian@hotmail.com |

Have after 3 years, I have finnaly got my website relaunched.Problems its a free site 100mbs so lots of pop ups. 300 or so scans took forever to do. More than 2 people looks at it it goes offline. I now have about 50 more items to get scanned including the very rare Skippyinspace covers, There is an example on the covers page of the website. And worse of all the scans are quite poor plus I haven't had time to link to a bigger picture. Wifes comment put scans on the web, put the rest in a safety deposit box in the bank as this is my life insurance policy!! Ian H www.skippyinspace.bravepages.com

There are plenty of places that you can park your web site at. I use www.geocities.com for mine. One of these days I'll have to get my own domain name though. For web editors, the best free editor I have found is "1st Page 2000". You can download it here; http://www.evrsoft.com/ With that, and a basic HTML book, you could be up and on your way quickly. I would also love to put up a site. The problem is that I've used a scanner myself only once and found it completely frustrating, and I don't yet have a digital camera. Also, it seems that everytime I get around to learning how to do an application, it suddenly becomes obsolete. Furthermore, I wonder if I go through all the trouble, would there be more than 2 people actually taking the time to look at it.What are other people's experience with their sites? Have you had many hits? Is it worth the time? |
