Here I go with making lists again...The following Apollo astronauts have contributed greatly to space collecting by sharing with us many momentos of their adventures. Thank you! I don't believe I've seen an auction catalog without at least one item from each... Cunningham Scott Cernan Stafford Aldrin Conrad Bean Mitchell Irwin Worden Duke I have noticed that very rarely we will encounter an item for sale from these great men.... Lovell Collins Gordon Haise Shepard Sooo... what's up with the rest of the Apollo astronauts? Where's their stuff? Have they contributed all of their treasures to museums? Or friends? Or... Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Wally Schirra have some of his personal stuff for sale at Farthest Reaches? |

LOL !!Leon! I can sure see why you would say that. I do tend to ask a lot of questions! It is sure not that I have a lot of time on my hands though. Having my own restoration business and three, yes three, teenagers in the house I've got plenty to keep me busy! It's just that I've got a real passion for the MGA space era. I'm still a relative newcomer compared to many on this board, and I guess I'm trying to learn it all. I would like to thank all you good people who have taken the time to respond to my previous inquiries on this board and directly through email. Soooo... what about these astros with nothing on the market. Anybody have any insight on any of them? Noah |

I would assume the same is true with Armstrong. And I would suppose the same would be true of Shepard (the Astronaut Scholarship Fund) with the caveat that I imagine he gave most of his flown items away to friends and supporters. Any idea on the remainder? |

Hi Noah,I'd have to disagree with your including Lovell in the rarely available category, he's been making flown A8 and A13 betas available through Novaspace for the last few years at least. Not sure if he's ever put anything else on the market though. Cheers, Matt |

Hey Noah,Just messing with you a little my friend! Schirra has sold a good bit of stuff over the years. I have an Odyssey auction catalog from 1994 and it has a lot of items in it from the Wally Schirra collection. I think he also had some items in the Christie's auction. Leon |

So we've knocked my original list of astronauts with no known momentos to...Eislie Borman Anders McDivitt Scwheickart Young Swigert Roosa Mattingly Evans Matt, you are right about Lovell having an occasional beta patch for sale at Novaspace ( a fine bunch of folks ) but that's all I've seen from Lovell, and never anything at an auction. That's why I included him in the "rare" section.

Howdy,Bill Anders is starting a museum that will be located in Bellingham Washington (North of Seattle almost in Canada), and his son has moved there to help set it up. Bill will operate it as part of Heritage Flight Museum activities. He has been operating under the classification of an Air Museum for a number of years but this will be an opportunity to have much more of his artifacts be displayed for the public. http://www.heritageflight.org/admin_&_navigation/frames_main.htm John Young has most of his items and has discussed notional ideas of working with an Air Museum at some point. He is still employed by NASA so he cannot "part out" his things or do any signing/donations etc... for charity or profit.

Noah - Just happened to see your question re the astros. I can tell you that Swigert's sister has control of much of his memorabilia and, other than some that was sold years ago through Superior, it was put away for the future. Re Mike Collins, Aurora Galleries had a piece or two in their last sale AND will have more (including one major item) in our upcoming November sale (possibly the front cover piece). I noticed that you overlooked Deke Slayton. Intentional? Anyway, Superior sold a fair amount of his material a number of years ago BUT, Aurora will have over 100 lots of material from his estate in November. Some of this material will definitely raise eyebrown and is of major collector interest. Regards...Michael Orenstein
