I recently came across some wines produced
by Bully Hill Vineyards, labeled Space Shuttle Red, and Space Shuttle White. Their
website is www.bullyhill.com.

I have a bottle of Space Shuttle White Wine. It was bottled in New York in 1987 by Bully Hill Vineyards.

Max Ary gave the bottle to me back when I first visited the Kansas Cosmosphere.

I heard that Bully Hill Vineyards is gone and that the Baron of Bully Hill died a few years back.

Great label, lousy wine.

Certainly untrue on all counts. Bully Hill Vineyards still exists, It's owner, Walter Taylor (AKA The Baron) still lives, although in a condition of total paralysis, the result of an auto accident some years ago. Walter is a most amazing character. Until the accident, he painted all the pictures appearing on the labels (including the Shuttle) He was involved in a longstanding feud with Taylor Wine Co. (Started by his grandfather, but out of the family for some years). The wine giant went to court to prevent Bully Hill wine from displaying the name "Taylor", so on many early bottles you will find Walter's last name blacked out. As for the quality of the wine, I agree, at least in the case of the shuttles. I must say I have had far better wine come from bully hill (actually very good wine)

Tom,

I guess I had bad information about Mr. Taylor. Sorry. I will advise who told me. They did say he died in an auto accident. Oops.

I have one of the bottles with his name blacked out. You learn something new all the time. I was wondering why the last name was blacked out.

One thing I do know is the quality of the wine. I tasted it. It was not quite palatable.

All times are CT (US)
