I just lost an auction on ebay. That's nothing unusual! I have even done some sniping in the past... that is wait until near the end of an auction to place my bid, but this one was extreme! At 0 hours, 0 minutes, and 0 seconds I was the top bidder. I hit the refresh button one more time to see the end of auction page... and I had been outbid! I suppose the fellow used one of those sniping programs that I hear rumor of. I did a search on google and there seems to be a few of these free sniping programs out there. What does everybody think of these? Any recomendations?

I don't use them, but they are completely fair. If you put in a bid for your honest maximum, you should have no regrets if you loose by even a penny.

It's annoying, sure, but EBay is about as an efficient pricing mechanism as you can hope for.

I use eSnipe (www.esnipe.com) and I love it.

If you ever do a search on eBay you will notice one thing: The items that are due to end are on top of the list. That's what probably happened, no use to speculate that a sniping program was used....

I snipe ... but not with a program. I usually throw my highest bid in with 30 seconds or so left. I know that many people think that it's undignified but I absolutely, 100% disagree!! My goal as a bidder is to get the item that I am biding on for the cheapest possible price that I can. Thinking about auctions in the "traditional" fashion doesn't apply!! This is the electronic world with new rules! If you don't like it .... then don't play! It's all part of the game!!
The only players that don't like it from what I can see are the auctioneers and the sellers. As a seller, you are certainly entitled to a reserve which should cover you!

Happy sniping, Dan
