These two USAF photos are from Mercury flight MR-1a. The individuals posed in front of the capsule are not identified.

The caption for both photos is, "CCMTA, NASA:MERCURY, SKID STRIP. Arrival of Cap 2 after Test #5111." The photos are numbers 60-355-57 and 60-355-59. They are dated 12-20-1960.

Who are these fellows? Would anyone be able to ID any of the fellows in either of the photos?

Bottom photo looks like a younger Bob Gilruth (center), Space Task Group (STG) director at the time, along with Mercury spacecraft designer Max Faget (right) and I think at left might be STGer Paul Purser. I would need to check further on the top photo.

Standing at center in the top photo is Robert Thompson, who headed the landing and recovery office. At left in the bottom photo is Charles Donlan, Gilruth's deputy.

All times are CT (US)
