Looked on the net and it was not readily apparent where the Mercury spacecraft was assembled. Is there any reference covering the construction process?

McDonnell Aircraft Corporation built the Mercury capsules and the Gemini spacecraft at their plant located near Lambert Field in St. Louis, Missouri.

Assembly was most likely in McDonnell (now Boeing) Building 101. The building was expanded in 1962 and was used for Gemini as well.
