My question is only theoretical. Suppose that a week before the launch of Apollo 13, NASA (in some way, admit that is barely impossible) had founded fears that was some big problem inside service module of Apollo 13. In this hypothetical case, which would have been the procedure? The Saturn would have been bring back in the VAB, I think, but was possible inspect, find the damage and repair (or replace) the defective piece in VAB with the Apollo CM/SM attached to Saturn, or the capsule would have been detached and taken elsewhere? And after the repair which other window of launch would be open for Apollo 13 (at this point with Mattingly reinstated in the crew, I think), July or December 1970? |

It depends. But most likely it would have needed to go back to the MSOB (Manned Spacecraft Operations Building). | |
