The Apollo 8 mission carried a ballast called Lunar Test Article B. The only photographs I have seen of it are inside Apollo 8's Saturn IVB stage. Are there photographs of it before it was mated to the Saturn stage? Also, if this was Lunar Test Article B, was there a Lunar Test Article A? |

I think one was used on Apollo 4 and another on Apollo 6. |

As per Stages to Saturn, Apollo 4 launched LTA-10R and Apollo 6 launched LTA-2R.Don't think I've ever heard of LTA-A, although with a -B, one would expect that there was one somewhere along the way. |

Which was the first habitable Apollo LTA that had a working instrument panel and when was it delivered to the Manned Spacecraft Center? Editor's note: Threads merged. |

I always thought the "B" stood for "ballast". |
