On all the Apollo missions, astronauts had two kinds of voice communication with Mission Control. There was what was called the "hot mic," which meant that the astronauts' voices could be heard by the general public as well as Mission Control. And there was a private channel with Mission Control that excluded the general public. But there was also a voice-activated tape recording system aboard the Command Module as well I believe. So if this is correct, then it appears that every word spoken by the astronauts in the course of a flight was completely recorded. Is this true? And if so, what about when the astronauts were in the lunar module? Did the LM have a voice-activated tape recording system as well? And if so, were the recordings retrieved by the astronauts before they discarded the LM? |

I'm not sure about your first question, but I'm sure someone here will be able to help.Regarding your second question. This should more than help with details: The Mission Transcript Collection. Most of the Apollo missions produced four transcripts per flight. These included the onboard voice data recorder transcripts made from the Data Storage Equipment (DSE) on the Command Module (CM), and the Data Storage Electronics Assembly (DSEA) onboard the Lunar Module (LM)... |

That was great stuff. Thank you! Are the transcripts edited? | |
